That would be what I'd do, rescue the little lizzards and not-so-little turtles. We had a pet anole, years ago. In the winter, we'd just put a bit of fruit in his cage and there'd be fruit flies for him to eat. Sprinkle him with water, cuz they don't drink out of a dish.

I also am in Fla. (a little south of Chemar). It has been sooo cold here. They say that it hasn't been this cold in decades. We too tend to have homeless folks in the area every winter, but I have noticed more of late.
I have relatives in Orlando. What's the temp been like there? I bet north Fla. is in a state of shock.

Double checked Orlando Sun Sentinel/first 3 paragraphs of recent story:
A teeth-chatteringly cold night and morning that brought sleet and – yes, really – snow to Central Florida has resolved into a chilly rain.

The National Weather Service in Melbourne reports that for the rest of today, there is a 20 percent chance of precipitation. Today's high will be 42, although blowing winds that could reach up to 15 mph may make it feel as though it's in the mid-20s. Tonight, look for temperatures to drop to about 25.

Forecasters issued a wind chill advisory Friday that is expected to continue through 10 a.m. Sunday in some parts of the region, and advise people who must venture outside to wear warm winter gear.

yup, my son was at youth group followed by a concert near UCF last night and drove back here via Oveido and sure enough, he drove home around 2.30am in light snow flurries. He pulled over to check if it was real lol

this morning all my plant covers are iced and it is drizzling and coooooolllllld and windy brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

the cats were so funny....they lined up at the door when I had finished feeding them and I opened it and they darted out...only to rapidly head back in

I saw a lone water bird picking its way thru the stream this morning, but it is so eeerie not hearing all the bird sounds that I am accustomed to. Hope they are all warm in the woods somewhere.

the forecast suggests this cold stuff is even affecting down to the Florida Keys & Cuba!!

needless to say the many tourists who come to Florida to escape the winter chills are not happy, nevermind all the water parks, beach industries etc

I lived in England for many years so got used to cold winters but having been in Florida for almost 20 years, I have kinda lost my chill tolerance ....that plus the advancing age of me ole bones

well, just when we thought it couldnt get colder in central Florida....forecast for tonight is low 20s with windchill taking it into the teens

hard freeze warning has been issued for the whole area

I managed to get two large tubs of strawberries for $5 today...the produce manager said the growers had been frantically picking to at least get something out of their crop, hence the lower prices.

Shocked

OMGosh.... that is amazing.

We are predicted to get very cold again tonight too.
Leaving the faucet trickling again... so it won't freeze our pipes!

My granddaughter is down there visiting--brought her bathing suit and flip-flops, of course. I believe her response was, "SERIOUSLY??????"

Our cat usually stays outside, but for the last week, we've had her inside. She began meowing at the door when it turned cold and there was no way we were going to keep her out there in this freeze.

Went grocery shopping last night and all of us were wearing our heaviest jackets with hoods. I refused to take mine off or even unzip it in the store...most people were bundled up like I was. Some giggled when looking at each other. This is NOT a typical scenario in my area. I could NOT get the chill out of my body. The cashiers were MISERABLE. People were complaining everywhere. I bought the last box of hot chocolate! LOL!

Well, I thought I have heard EVERYTHING...but forecasters were worried about SNOW in Ft. Lauderdale last night. Seems the conditions were right for it. Wow...now that would be a surprise for vacationer's from up North. However, to the best of my knowledge...it didn't snow.

IT's been one week of "real" winter in Sunny Fla. I kinda like the cold weather...but we apparently are SPOILED big time. We usually have two days here and there. One weeks is PLENTY PLENTY PLENTY.

My heart goes out to Mrs. D and those who live in places with REAL winters.

I don't know if I could actually "do" that at this point. I think I would have to bundle up and stay inside 99% of the time. Yep...no "chill" tolerance. LOL!
And, somehow I think the cold air in Fla. goes right through the body.

Right now I'm trying to figure out how to get some gloves...don't own a pair and the other day I could barely drive the car. Someone pass me the instruction sheet....I did not get the memo on this!
