Many months ago I signed up and tried to delete it and was unable to as well. So, I just abandoned it. Once in a great while, once person would post. Eventually, she stopped. She called me and convinced me to start up again. She is one of my friends with 1,000 + friends. The interesting thing about her is that she is what I think to be a very together person, etc. She is from a very small town. She also has a job that puts in touch with a lot of people and is active in a large mainstream religious group (has a relative who is a minister, etc.) and knows people from all over the country. It still seems like a LOT of people, but it is somewhat plausible. FB has provided a way to get in touch with all these folks easily. The other person I know with 1,000 + friends, as near as I can tell, is "friending" (LOL!) people at a rapid fire rate. Perhaps this person is interested in some sort of game, etc. I did notice that when this person hit a certain number, my friend lowed down a bit. It's all been enlightening. Many thanks for the info.

Ah...facebook...I'm an addict! lol
No, I don't have 1,000 plus 'friends', I have just over 100, about half of them I know in one way or another, and the rest are friends of friends. But I don't bother adding those who are just searching for 'friends', and I have no friends in common with them. I'm mostly addicted to the games there, and I'm involved in a few support groups. I always said I wasn't going to join facebook, but a few friends talked me into it eventually...and now, almost 2 years later, I'm still there! lol ~Jaime~

The thing that I most enjoy about FaceBook is being able to chat in real time. There are friends & relatives that I wouldn't actually pick up a phone to call, but if I see them already online sometimes I'll pop in to say hi.
Earlier tonight I said hello to a friend in Colorado and we made plans for her to come and spend the weekend with me in May. (Coincidentally, she was the first person I ever met with MS, back before I was dxd.) And yes, FB does keep tabs on your whereabouts. When I first returned from a trip to Israel, all the ads were written in Farsi!!!

Twink - you said it just right. Being able to just say hi to a friend on FB is great. I use it a lot with other moms. We're all so busy with our kids but if we have a minute and we're online we can just say hey to each other. It's much easier than trying to have a conversation on the phone and sometimes it's just too late at night to call them. Just a few days ago I reconnected with a bunch of high school friends and it's been great. Without FB we never would have found each other like this.

Since joining Facebook, I notice much more spam. I first used an alias, almost really my first name and maiden name but FB knew my "real" stuff. I never open or click on anything. Friends try to send me bouquets or virtual presents. I accept nothing. If they really want to give me something, send real stuff!!

I agree that the games are nice. (they do cheat however to get you to play for real IMO)
But we have never received any spam or increase of it. I guess by keeping our security totally up, it has blocked that. We have always been rather quiet socially, so I find FB rather intrusive personally. For people with high social needs, it appears to be useful. I just don't like the data mining aspects at all! This is how the "free lunch" is given... that young entrepreneur is selling your data.

Law Enforcement uses Facebook a lot. More than most people would think. They've caught several elusive people by following their Facebook page. Seems the urge to talk about themselves outweighed the need to be invisible! And people say criminals aren't dumb!

Thanks for the virus warning...I'm going to email my kids to let them know.
I am on Facebook too. I like to go to the NMSS page...there's a discussion board page that has questions where I can get info on lots of MS stuff. It's also a way to keep up with the nieces/nephews, etc. They don't seem to like to use the phone Me either...
