Question Mattresses? Memory foam or memory w/gel ??

We have a water-bed 80% reduced motion and it's nice , but the last few years I have been getting pressure point discomfort with only it. Tried more & less water levels and still the same issue.
So I added 1 then a second memory foam toppers ..

Now I am thinking about getting an actual 8" or thicker memory foam mattress to place on top of the water-bed mattress. (after letting some water out to lower the base depth)

So I was wondering who has tried memory foam mattresses and if gel also , and how they like them?

I don't have one but a friend has a memory foam mattress that was very expensive but she has trouble with it holding in body heat. She finds it too hot. Worth investigating but of course we live in a very hot (and getting hotter) climate here compared with you.

I love my 6 inch hand made pure cotton authentic Japanese futon. It's been great for my back but is extremely heavy. There have been times recently though where I have considered something different or even softer for the same reasons as you I suppose. I feel as if I need a little "give" and the futon doesn't give. Hard decision really.

i bought a tempurpedic a few yrs ago and i love it.
it really decreased my back pain and the pressure pain (on my trocantors in my hips) that you mentioned. i'm a side sleeper.

it wasn't cheap but to me it was worth it.

i tried some things on top of my mattress like feather beds etc but that didn't help.

Well I went to a mattress store to try the memory foam & gel mattresses, they were nice, but not $2k nice

Since I already have the water bed mattress (base) and 2- 2" toppers, I decided to get a 3" gel infused topper and put in on top of my stack.

So we shall see how my experiment works out.
I may have to remove one or both of the smaller toppers if it is too cushy..

Sorry I missed this earlier. I have two combo mattresses that are foam on top of a spring mattress. My first one was about $1200, had additional plush on top of the foam, and was definitely more high end and the second was closer to $700 from Sears on a closeout. I love them both. I had slept on a foam mattress for a week when house sitting for a relative. I think the combo is the best of both worlds.

So far so good, the 3" memory foam/gel topper is working well. 129.00 @ Walmart

I have been sleeping better, no pressure points, no restless legs...

Had our Tempurpedic since 2002 and its STILL awesome! No flipping or that stuff required - yes they are pricey for sure but then again so are Chiropractor visits and all the other back treatments for life also-right?

My issue now (which I think I found the answer) is a pillow matter. With the serious cervical spine issues I have, that requires all sorts of crazy treatment procedures, you know the neck can't be elevated or opposite thus resulting in greater pain. Therefore I reached out to this Co who thinks they have the answer for me!

http://www.mypillow.com/neck-pain

Looks like the typical "Infomercial" but the VP contacted me himself after reading I was a Marine - which he and his son both were too! Anyway, I have 4 pillows inbound - 2 of each different type, and will test and eval them once they arrive! If anyone here has these Id love to hear how they worked out for you please?
Thanks and best of sleep to you all.
