I'm a CASA volunteer from California and just curious as to whether or not there were any others on this board.

Chemar, thanks for giving me the opportunity to shout about CASA.
I'm always ready to jump on my soapbox and promote the program. We are so in need of volunteers and word of mouth seems to be the best way of recruiting them. When a child has been removed from his home by Child Protection Services, quite often a CASA is assigned to the case. The CASA monitors everything that is related to the child, foster care, medical care, CPS...We have access to everything. We then report to the court on what we believe to in the best interest of the child, returned to parents, adopted, foster care etc. We are advocates to only the child. When a child has a CASA they don't fall through the cracks and that to me is so rewarding. |

I was a CASA volunteer in SC for five years. I was honored to be able to serve, but it can be heartbreaking as well as very rewarding. Huge hugs to you for helping to make a positive change in the life of a child most in need.
