My son used to get harassed by the people in my neighborhood because he's half black. One day his black friends were over, and they were complaining about white people - grouping them altogether.

Figured I'd throw in a monkey wrench, so I walked into the room and asked how I fit into the picture. My son said "Mom, you're not white - you're TRANSPARENT." They all busted out laughing. Me too, cuz with all the spider veins in my legs, it looks like a roadmap. Anyone need any directions?

My son was 7 when the movie "Ghost" came out. It was also the time he lost his grandparents - my mom and dad, within 8 days of each other. It was a tough year. He really loved the song "Unchained Melody" by the Righteous Brothers - REALLY loved it.

So we're driving down the street when he was a young punk, listening to the Righteous Brothers. He was absolutely amazed to find out the singers were white. He didn't believe me until we got home and I showed him a picture of those two funny looking old white dudes.

I told him. See, ya little SNOB? White people can have "soul" and "inspiration" too. At least he knows there's something inside all that transparency.

KathyM, How old are you? Did you ever watch "The Jeffersons", with George & Louise? George was sorta?????. His son married a girl with a 'white' father & a 'black' mother. He called her a "zebra". I guess that was supposed to be funny.
