Red face FYI...DSL woes...

Our DSL has been acting up all day. It finally went down for quite a while.

If you don't see me for a few days...that means it is totally down and not rebootable.

We have rebooted for now, but knowing how computers are...I am just publically stating the situation.

Red face went down

once last night.

This is two days after an auto download for QuickTime and ITunes.

I am not getting a conflict screen like I did when I upgraded to IE 7.0.
At that time there was a conflict between a .dll file that was included in the download + our router.

I'll have to have our son look at it again. He fixed the other DSL snafu by finding the duplicate .dll file and renaming it.

I feel like we are living on borrowed time!
this is what happened last time I downloaded an update:

Unhappy major problems :(

it appears to be our computer---

first up are virus/spybot scans

next to uninstall both apple updates.
does anyone know if quicktime is necessary? Can I do that
safely?

we shut down the desktop and now are using the laptop and
so far the
DSL is working. I just can't type fast on this keyboard!

i took quicktime off my computer right away. i unintalled itunes after i downloaded songs for lil'monkey. i was shocked at how many processes it makes run. i use media player. i like it. plays tv..movies...

have you tried to fix it by going back to an early date? restore it to then? all you do is copy anything you might need, that you stored after the problems started. then you pick the date to do the restore. any downloads or fixes will be gone and you can start over.

i have att&t dsl. i hate it. it fried my last computer. i was lucky that best buy replaced it for free. i spent a fortune on this one. att&t will make it freeze. drives me crazy.

if you want to do this:

go into accessories

system tools

system restore

then chose restore to earlier time. it will give you a calander. then just pick the date.

Angry whew....

Well, this laptop is working okay with the desktop turned off.

And my husband just got a new spiffy HP from work and they gave him a HP keyboard which we just plugged in. Next will be the mouse. I was right into the last minutes of a bid on Ebay--- you know how that can be! Whew.

Now, I have not had problems with AT&T itself. But the router software has
been in conflict with IE 7.0 download. We fixed that last year.

Now my son says to just uninstall the two updates. I've never done a "restore"
before. It gives me the willies...I have to confess.

We have to go out for some errands now, that the bidding is over ( I did win) so
at least I feel good about SOMETHING!!... Later we will think about what to do.
I'll call my son, and have him talk me thru a restore perhaps. Thanks, curious for the recommendation.

Our DSL has been very inexpensive, and we are close to the hub so we get fast enough service for our pokey lives. We are like the turtles on the comcast commercials!! LOL
