My son's orders have been changed and he will not be deployed to Iraq in May. Instead, he'll be deployed to the South Pacific, where my father served in WWII.
Better yet, I get to see him before he goes on deployment. He's taking a leave in April to celebrate my 50th birthday with me. I can think of no finer gift. Following deployment, he gets to come home for good and FINALLY start college next year. He's already served 4 years in the military, and I've missed him SOOOO much. |

My daughter & grandson spent the night last night because her husband was staying with his sick Mom in a town about an hour away & she didn't want to be alone. She hasn't spent the night at my house in years, probably because she only live a mile away.
We had a ball. Played with my beautiful grandbaby for awhile, put him to bed, popped some popcorn & watched a movie. This morning I got the baby up, brought my daughter coffee in bed & then made them breakfast. My daughter said she was the luckiest woman on earth to have a Mom like me. Can't get any better than that!

I just got some good news.
After 9 mos of swollen feet and high blood pressure my beautiful niece gave birth today. She had a bouncy happy healthy baby boy! She has been so miserable. I am so happy this part is over.

Thank you for this post it is nice to hear good news. i do not watch the evening news for most part, because it is depressing.
I wanted to add one more to this thread but have hesitated not sure why shame or embarrassment not sure, yet I've no reason for either. As some of you know I was a sole parent for almost ten years, before I remarried into the other trio of sons i now have. so the 3 of us started life early and scared. Unfortunately Sean my eldest has severe LD adhd odd an iq of 60 - 65 seizures bi polar, and can not read. Yet socially the kid is fine, academically its a challenge...We actually tried one of those advertised tutor centers for reading and got a full refund. this was my biggest heartbreak. I was reading by 1st grade escaping into books, like the boxcar children series or the light in a forest, that was the one that taught me i could crawl into the book and walk among the pages. So for my son not to be able to enjoy this pleasure broke my heart. well a few nights ago(almost 10 days ago) I walked past his room cause I heard him talking in there, which in all honesty is not odd with him but he was talking intelligently. Quietly I opened the door, Sean had dug out some early 1st grade reading books i still had and was actually reading them, I immediately dialed my mom on my phone and told her to listen and slipped the phone in the room and stepped back and listen to him actually sounding out words. I dont care what you think, I am a dad, was a mom, always a parent first and foremost and will always be for life. I cried my eyes out i have waited 15-16 yrs for this moment, he is dilingently working on it I got him a few cognitive 1st and 2nd grade work books math grammar words memory etc.... he wants to be a lawyer and by gods will if i can help him i shall. finally at age 19 things seem to be falling into place the seizures are gone and he is learning, and for the record when I grabbed the phone back my mom was balling too it was something I guess you had to be there but even deb shed tears for him, it has been ten years of wishing he could read for her too I just really like the good news thread I hope it keeps coming in, its refreshing and wonderful to hear good things thank you peace
