air. The best success I had was with broccoli and some lettuce. Carrots too.
I did not have good results with strawberries. Bananas were pretty well kept too. At home I never buy more than 3 or 4 at a time.
I keep red peppers, and nectarines/peaches right on the counter in a shady cool place (we are pretty cool there indoors out of the sun).

The claims of up to a month, I didn't find true.

See what you get... however. They seem to have come down in price. I paid more than 9.95 for them about 6 yrs ago.
MrsD, you can buy a tiny fridge fan (in its hardware form) for just a couple bucks and merely contact it to a 9v battery. It will run for quite awhile like that if you're just talking during vacations.

The Lady from Singing in the Rain is Debbie Reynolds (who was married to Eddie Fisher, who dumped her for Elizabeth Taylor, who dumped him for Richard Burton).

Mrs. D. You say you have to wash them out first??? It doesn't say that in the instructions. It DOES say not to put anything wet into it.

Should I be washing and drying out the bags from now on?? And how come??

Thanks!!!

Lightbulb after something goes bad

in one of the bags, you will have to wash them out. You don't want those
mold spores to jump on your other items. I find washing baggies a pain in the butt! (we had an aunt who rewashed all her Ziplocs! )

No electricity, no running water, no hot water...I tend to get cranky.
I expected the baggies to be an "improvement" and they were not so as I expected. But I still use them. I just don't put high sugar things in them.
I tend to get lazy up there. So now when I am alone longer than a week, I
tend to do canned things. Won't kill me for a week, I figure. Just getting the !@#$%^ refrigerator to work at all is a battle. Now that we increased the "flow" nozzle some, it freezes things... So I just keep less stuff, and eat differently if I am there alone (I don't like to run the boat by myself--so I become a recluse).

Like I said.... they work okay, on some items better than others.
And at least they have come down in price some.

Mrs. D.

You poor thing. You are like McGyver, rigging up stuff.

No refrigeration, no hot water, god knows I'd be cranky.

Hope all this dust settles soon.

And thanks much for the info on the bags.

Never knew to wash them between uses.

I just checked. All my berries and still beautiful, bananas are doing great, my zuchinnis are perfect (we just made a veggie fruit thingee using our juicer.

I just watched a Jack LaLanne juicing commercial. The guy is 92.

He juices exactly what I juice. BUT, they made a juice drink using pomegranates. I heard that is EXTREMELY HEALTHY.

So in the a.m. along with my veggies and a bit of carrot and apple, I'm hoping to add a big of the actual pomegranate.

This is all anti-inflammatory good stuff right? And I say to myself. Alan has Chronic Inflammatory Demylinating Polyneuropathy.

So the juicing can't hurt right??

Default My Produce Is Still Fresh!!!!

Just wanted to update after 4 whole days in my fridge.

My romaine lettuce is fresh, crisp and not a brown spot on any of them.

My zucchini looks like i just bought it.

My berries (I combined blueberries and the blackberries in one bag). Shouldn't have done that. Not they got moldy or anything. They just got moist, and I had to wipe out the bag and put them in a different bag. I don't think berries stay dry in this bag. Next time I'll either put them each in their own bag, or keep them in the original boxes.

Now let me tell you about the carrots. Holy Cow. It's like I just put them in the bag.

Celery is just fine.

And the strawberries!!!! Nice and pink and firm, and no mold.

These bags are for me.!!!! Wouldn't be without them.

I made a salad at dinner time, taking items from each bag. My salad was dry, crisp, fresh looking and the colors were amazing.

I am extremely satisifed with these bags.

Just wanted to update all of you.

I'm waiting to hear what things are like in a few more days.

I don't have trouble keeping lettuce. I use my salad spinner and wash it and then lay it on unbleached paper towels or terry cloth. I got a mushroom brush for my mushrooms and so I don't have to wash them (which will guarantee their ruin). I also put a square of unbleached paper towel in with the mushrooms and lettuce. That will collect moisture and keep it off the produce.

I do that with my raspberries and blueberries too. They are so expensive and it is heart sickening to have them spoil.

Bananas, I tend to buy before they are ripe and sometimes I pick them selectively from different bunches so they are in different stages of ripening. If you buy one bunch all in the same stage of ripening then they will all spoil together.

I let my bananas sit in a pottery colander in the kitchen. The colander allows air to flow and I think they might last longer.

Mostly we eat them before they spoil.

I plant tomatoes and peppers and this year if I get a bunch (it's always all at once...) I will cut them up and either cook them and freeze them.

When you freeze them they are pretty much just good for sauces and such.

With only my DH and I we cannot eat things up fast enough and all our neighbors, save one, plant their own gardens.

With the high price of corn I plan to plant corn next year.

I won't need much, but I hate paying the ludicrous prices now that ethanol takes up most of the corn that is planted. I knew that would happen.
