no dont use tomatoe sauce or juice not all dogs skins can tolerate the acid if u call a vet he will give u a recipe to mix up, its the same thing as masangil duecue(sp?) so just go buy a cheap pak at dollar general or dollar tree place its cheaper and easier to used, expert deskunker here
and if your vet says use the tomatoe juice get a new vet they are wrong it is not good to use on dogs skin you can use the juice it does work but like i said some dogs skins wont tolerate the juice, just be careful

Interesting advice. Guess our dogs were lucky as they did tolerate it. After the tomato juice was washed off, we rinsed and washed with soap. It worked. Thanks for the info though. Guess it doesn't work for every dog and best to check It also works if someone puts a dead skunk in your mailbox!

I have this in my "Save" files ........
1 quart 3% hydrogen peroxide (any drug store or WalMart) 1/4 cup baking soda 1 teasp. liquid soap Mix and use to shampoo any pet or person. Rinse with plain water. It won't "keep" and can't be stored. .................................................. .. http://www.cleanuppages.com/clean/skunkodor.htm http://www.pacificresources.com/ff-termo.html http://www.havahart.com/nuisance/skunks/skunk_odor.htm ............................................... I haven't tried these URL for ages so I have no idea if they are still any good. I know our Missouri Magazine was also suggesting this recipe. Good luck with whatever you use |

personally i think its the smaller dogs on the sensitive skin issue , but am not sure,
thats the recipe wren and for all pratical purposes its masangil u can always shampoo after wards, have used the recipe twice and since the last few years have used masangil, works just as well lot easier to use and work with too, not that much more in cost either, my dogs used to always get skunked, my mom's labs are always getting it too, i actually do not mind that smell anymore

Wellllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll ..........................I consider myself a bit ..... ......a very tiny bit of a skunk expert. Wanna' see some photos?
http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread44278-3.html http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread44450-2.html And I fought with just one skunk .... she (Hillary was her name.... they all had names) and I were fussing over who owned the food tray I had put down to chase off a 'possum. Hillary "squirted" me once --- just a little puff to let me know she owned that tray. It was such a small puff that a shower cleaned me up and normal washing cleaned my clothes. My husband laughed so hard he needed a shower. Hillary didn't care. |

Hi Wren. We have dealt with many a skunk. Got rid of quite a number of them. And their smell did vary. For some of them, my husband - and he's no whoose - had to put on a gas mask when taking them away. He always used rubber gloves as well and we were very, very careful as they can carry rabies
We would have all kinds of varmits when we had chickens. The skunks would like to steal the eggs, the weasel would suck the blood right out of the chickens and leave them sitting there. Fox and stray dogs would take their share as well. Such a time dealing with all of that But, I did love having the chickens that I had. So colorful and fun They also ate many, many bugs and those awful woodticks as well. The deerticks can carry Lyme Disease and that would certainly not be fun We know a fellow who got it and it really affected him. Changed his life. So it goes in the days of our lives
