I asked her who was going to deliver my paper now and she said probably the district manager:confused::confused:

She said about 15 people quit because they couldn't afford the gas anymore to deliver (we live in a rural area).

Isn't that SAD!!!!!

People trying to make it the best way they know how and they can't even afford to work because of the gas prices.

EWWWWW that just burns me.:hissyfit::Soapbox::Soapbox:

Beth,

If Congress actually acts on what they learned today in their hearings on fuel price manipulation, then prices will drop significantly by the end of the summer.

The witnesses during the hearing were significant people, and they pointed out how and where the problems/price manipulation is taking place. If these issues are resolved, then prices will get back into the $2 range and a bunch of Energy Speculators/Hedge Funds will bite the dust instantly.

I am not holding my breath on this happening so fast, but the good news is that the Congress has its rear in the fire right now,..., more so than they ever have.

Let's hope for the best.

Wanna see something kind of freaky? Take a look at this:

http://www.nationmaster.com/red/pie/...il-consumption

Curious 06-04-2008 09:45 PM

does that also mean we eat the most fat/oil too?

Uh, I have a question. United States uses 25% (as far as that chart, right) and Australia uses 1%.

Isn't Australia a continent?? THE U.S. is a country.

You mean, we as a country, consume more than the entire continent of Australia???

The mind boggles.

There is no doubt that the U.S. overconsumes, However, IMO, your statement is irrelevant.

Population has some significance; whether we are a continent or a country makes no difference. Australia has a population of approx. 20.4 million. The U.S. population is more than 14 times that, at 301.1 million.

Wow,

I stand corrected.

Thank you.

Political

In mid-May on CNN I watched part of a documentary about the cars in Brazil. They are hybrids using sugar cane. Brazil is no longer oil dependent. And the environment benefits are huge.

It may not help the dying breed of newspaper and I will be forced to use the computer. I will miss my routine.

I just do not understand why we USA people do not know about the alternative fuels of a third world country!!

I watched "Amazing Race" last year, one of the stops was making fuel from sugar cane.

A winning couple won electric cars.

I could keep my newspaper, recycle it for use again. People could make a living delivering things.
