Default plastic cross

ok...couldnt decide what to title this without offending anyone.

I originally posted this in the MS stumble inn forum.

I keep erasing what i write. GRRRR!!!!!!

I was not brought up with any religion. My mother was catholic and dad was WASP! Why im telling you this I have no idea.

My dad had given me my mom's crosses after she passed away. The one Im talking about is plastic. Ofcourse after i have it, Jesus fell off the cross. What would be the correct way to attach him?

(stop laughing...those of you who are) Ok laugh.....I feel so stupid asking this. Do you hot glue him??? Crazy glue??? Just seems wrong. It is in a bag packed away with the holy water in a box somewhere.

Thank Goddness It wasnt the wooden cross.

IMHO you can glue it. I'm sure thats how the maker(no pun intended) kept it on to begin with.

Why would you not want to glue it???

How do you think it was made in the first place - like Beth said, I'm sure the manufacturer glued it. The cross is just plastic - it's what it means to people that makes it special.

This reminds me of something my mother owned & is one of the few things of hers that remind me her. She died just before my 9th birthday, so theres little I really remember of her. I think she was kinda religious. I can see her holding her rosary (pearls/chain with a cross). I found her prayer book so instead of carrying a bouquet at my wedding, I carried a few flowers & her prayer book.
MotorsMommy, Go ahead, glue it. If you are religious & think you shouldn't, I'm sure he would understand & glad that you got it back to how you prefer. If you can't find "crazy glue" there's some similar/good stuff called "Gorilla Glue" (Found at many hardware stores or areas. I've also seen it at the glue area in stores & by the check out.)

I guess I am the worse sinner here. I found some old broken down crosses and tossed them. It did, for just a moment feel strange throwing Jesus into my garbage can. But, hey, this is how I look at it. If it didn't mean much and it's broke why keep it? It's just a symbol right? And yes, I have religious plaques, crosses and framed images all over my house.

In your case, this was your mom's and is special to you regardless of your beliefs. I say super glue him back on. :-)

glue sounds better than any other ideas that come to my mind but at risk of being exiled I shall not say what those ideas are, finding a plastic glue maybe a problem, its not Ivory?

At the risk of coming off as "preachy", the reality is (as Sandy mentioned) it's only a symbol. If it has sentimental (human) value to you, decide how much value and go from there. If you just want it whole again to toss it into a drawer, superglue away. If you feel it's worth more to you than that, look into a jewelry repair.

It is not a sin, nor any reflection on a person's faith to discard unwanted material items. Allowing yourself to believe that you're somehow being unfaithful to God by eliminating such items/stuff is on the edge of idolatry and that's a big no-no. God's a little tougher than that.

If you have a glue gun in the house, that would be the abslolute fastest way to do this. In two seconds, you'll have a brand new Jesus on the Cross.

If you don't have a glue gun, any other kind of glue would have to take some time to bond. Except for crazy glue. That's supposed to work in one second also.

Or, you can by double sided tape. Just cut it to the exact length of the cross. Place on the back of the Jesus figure, pull off the double sided tape of it, and affix it to the cross.

There you go.!!!

But actually, a glue gun is the way to go. Fast and simple. They cost about a buck in the ninety nine cents store near where I live.

Some are saying how a plastic glue is what you need. My dh put together plastic models, He used Gorilla Glue. We always have some in the house.

You could find a Catholic site like that one - they have a questions forum - and ask them, if you'd like to know for certain if there are rules pertaining.

We were taught as (Catholic) tots though, that it's all about intention. If you mean well, it's all good. I'd glue it and bless him. HE knows you mean well, and that's what counts.
