Default Flip

Tomorrow is my son Michael's birthday. 14 years old and he's my baby.

Anyway I bought him the neatest thing and I am so excited about giving it to him.

I ordered it through Amazon because it hasn't even made it in the stores here yet but It is called the FLIP video camera.

It's about the size of a cell phone. It records for up to 60 minutes. You can plug it into you computer tower and download it on to a disk or just on the computer.

You can also take a piece of the video and make it into a still picture.

It is all digital.

He has been asking for one for a couple of years but camcorders I thought were just to expensive to buy for a kid.

You can also plug it into your tv and watch the videos like that.

How cool is that! This is what it looks like.

Just thought I would share if anyone was interested.

I went to the Flip website. So I gather you use this instead of a camcorder? Let's say I'm around the corner on my friend's porch and I take this out of my handbag, and I aim it at everybody, I press the record button. let's say I record 5 minutes worth of stuff.

I go back home, plug it into the USB port of my tower and I can save it to my hard drive?

Is that was this little gizmo does??

There are three versions of this little thing. Does it have it's own video screen.

Tell tell tell tell.

It looks amazing. Just what I want to save up for. I never had a camcorder.

This looks so simple, I'm dying to get one.

But I want to learn how to use it first.

Thanks much.

He'll have a ball with it, Bethie! It's a great toy. Teach him to anchor it and not shoot while he's moving around, there is nothing crappier than digital video shot with a handheld camera. You'll get vertigo trying to watch it! If you get an excuse to get him another toy, there is a micro-tripod that will actually fit in a pocket. It makes all the difference.

Make sure he uploads it to youtube and sends us a link of the parts with you first thing in the morning, or screaming your brains out when he's acting his age!

Yes Melody. It is a minature version of a camcorder. You can either buy the 30 minute or 60. I bought the 60.

Yep you can record 5 minutes run home download to hard drive and your good to go. Yes it has the video screen and it only weighs a few ounces. It takes 2 AA batteries. It's the best thing I think since slice bread

Yep you can put it on YouTube.

It's very easy not to make it shake because it is so light weight. I am buying a little tripod for him next week.

It wasn't that expensive. I believe I got it for about $116.00
