Angry. As we pay $4+ dollars at the gas pump, as oil companies net RECORD PROFITS, our Supreme Court OVERRULED A JURY DECISION and cut the punitive damages Exxon should pay to fisheries that still deal with the aftereffects of that calamity.
I guess small business (everything is small when it compared to the oil companies) and our oceans do not warrant punitive damages. So, while it takes us $50+ just to fill up our gas tanks and we pay more at the grocery store, think long and hard as to who you vote for in the upcoming Presidential election. Oh boy, there is so much I could say on so many issues. A lot of them affect our pocketbooks. I want us all to look at our future and the future of our children. The education channel in my area was going through a list of nonprofit (no one is paying for the influence) websites for all of us to make an educated decision on issues that will affect us. I am going to go back and make a list to help in that respect. More to come. I was just SO ANGRY that the Supreme Court gave yet another nod to BIG OIL. All you have to do is look at which justice voted yes and which voted no and which political party appointed the judge. |

Yes, I heard that on the radio this morning. The question they are now asking is, if that doesn't fit the criteria for punitive damages, WHAT DOES?

I was listening to that on the news today. My first thought was "So who did Exxon have to sleep with on the Supreme Court to get a ruling like that?" I couldn't believe it, though I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

We do have to think about our children's future (as well our own), by time they can fight themselves, it might be too late. Big oil walks free, those with less power suffer. What lesson is being taught here? That future looks very scary. AArcyn, I'm as politically illiterate as computer illerarate. Mayte others are too. What course can we take to try at least?

There are so many ways to try. It takes precious time but I agree that it is our children's legacy and lessons can be learned. I will be watching the PBS news report that I saved on my DVR. It was about reliable websites that can educate me on various issues that are critical. Objective internet sites can help decipher the truth and the claim of truth. It is so difficult for me to keep my opinions neutral. I read history, I have been a part of history since the 1960's when I was only in second grade and JFK was elected and assassinated. I remember where I was when a kid walked into the lunchroom and announced that he has been shot. I follow politics. My newspaper used to publish how my senator voted on various issues. John McCain just happens to be that senator. I have kept up with his voting record for many years. Ask me what he has done, it is a great indicator of what he will do. But do it in PM because a public debate often inflames. Facts get lost in hot topics where opinion trumps issues...IMHO...wait!!! that is an opinion! |
