Default Come on up on the porch...

Well ain't it a mighty fine day!! Just look at all those clouds in the sky...I think I see an elephant...ya know sometimes when you look at something you think you see something. However, it ain't nuthun what you thought you were seeing.

Yeah, like Mr Gibblen's daughter. Why to look at that girl you'd think she was the poster child for 'trailer trash' in any state. Most people won't even speak to that pore child. She's been on this porch crying her heart out a many a time after being around people. She heard people call her names most wouldn't call themselves for sure. Pore child ain't never had nuthun but greif at school, the roller rink and just about everywhere she goes.

A few days ago the church was havin a social and she didn't want to go but her daddy told her she was. She was so upset I thought her brain was gonna get fried from worryin. Well, we had saved up some money where she helped out around here. We hippity hopped to town and found the prettiest dress we could to match her eyes.

The day of that social she comes over and we add a little highlights to her redish auburn hair, pin it up on her head with a lil bit hanging down. Momma got out her make up and put jest a dab, loaned her my Sunday pearls and ear rings, painted her nails a nice color. Why that gal could turn heads spinnin like that devil possessed child in the movies.

Why child, with that redish hair, green eyes and all made up...that baby looked like she just stepped off the cover of a magazine. Yep, she might have looked like the elephant in a cloud...but that child is one beautiful girl.
Any you boys need a date fer the social, have to come see me fore you take her. Bet they call her names...nice ones.

Sho is funny how people see one thing in life when it actually ain't what you thought you wuz looking at...yep. Mr Gibblens was so shocked, he didn't even recognize her fer a few seconds. Sometimes that ugly ducklin might just choose to be ugly...best to look a lil farther and see the beauty...

Like an elephant in a cloud. Who wants breakfast?

Good morning Momma! A warm buttered biscuit with fig jam would be good about now .

Momma you are an angel for taking that Gibblen girl under your wings. I know exactly how she feels... my angel was Ms Matty Vell. I would not have finished my first year of college without her. She lived down the highway from us and she worked at the college. She insisted I ride with her everyday...to save MY gas money... this was during the 70's gas crunch. She "volunteered" me for so many activities that I normally would not have gotten involved in.

Sometimes we all need an angel to show us how to get on the path to where we need to be going...

what a nice story. Momma... thanks for tellin' it to us !!

we have a secret lil beauty in mah neighborhood too...

she's a tomboy, an' I never seen her in anythin' but barefeet, shorts, and a raggedy ol' T-shirt.

but with cheerin' on, an' a wee bit o' financial support from Auntie Kay, we got her all spick-n-spanned, and sent her off with high hopes that she'd win a scholarship in a contest, (Miss Sabadito Alegre), and by gosh, she WON first place !!

zippetty-do-dah, zipetty-AY!

here's the little darlin:

her mama spent 5 hours braiding her hair, and I supplied the beads, and helped purchase the dress.

see, school ISN'T free here, like in the US... the vast majority are parochial (Catholic and Christian) private schools, and one has to PAY after 8th grade, to keep attending, tuition, books, uniforms, everything.

so, the poorer kids lose out, and drop out school as young teens.

it shore does warm the coggles of mah heart to help ensure that this very smart and sweet, and VERY deserving young lady gets a chance to get ahead in the world !!!

Cay...she is beautiful and it is a shame that education is not free for everyone. I think she will make a fine doctor, lawyer or whatever she decides.

JMiller...my bulldozer is bigger than your bulldozer and if you mess with the porch... you best have a phone to call 911!!! Cause bitin a head off fish ain't nothin like what an old lady with many frustrations can do to ya!!
