Nah, Brooklyn, Born and raised.

But you just reminded me.

My parents moved to Florida when I was 24 years old.

I checked for their Brooklyn location. Never thought about the Florida one.

Thanks MUCH!!!

Melody

Update!!!

Found some money under my father's name but next to the name it says MD.

My father wasn't a physician.

Can there be two people by the same name residing in Florida (I gather there must be MANY), so how do you know if it's the correct person? We are talking 3 bank accounts totalling around $400. Not a great deal of money, but if these were my dad's how the heck can I find this out??

Thanks, Melody

Well, the NYS people are very helpful! If you need them, call the number listed on the site and do NOT press any of the options when you get the recorded message. Hold the line and an operator will pick up. Make sure you have the SS# handy. When I spoke to them it took me all of 3 minutes and I was able to do "expedited refund" over the phone.

Not sure about Florida but it's worth the same try -- every state really seems to be different, even in terms of what they will show you online or tell you over the phone.

Report back with your riches and good luck! :D

Last time this was mentioned I searched and my daughters name was there. It actually was money I had put out for medical bills that was reimbursed. She got the check and cashed it

I looked again after the special on good morning america and found my deceased Dad on an old credit card. It must have been too much paid on the payoff and small amount but it is better for me to get for grandchildren for then the gov to have.

I am glad it reran. Thanks for the post

About 20 years ago the state of california (lower case indicates lack of respect) said they could not find Bob Hope and others with similar fame. It may have been John Wayne or
whoever. The state agency whined that they did not have the staff to chase these people down. You get the idea. We should all try to file every January 15th or something like that.

I had money from metlife. I wrote a long post on how they mistreated us on that one, but deleted it. metlife uses mellon to find you. I consider all of them incompetent or liars. The story played out over 2 years. I finally got my money from 1947, but no thanks to them. If you do business with them, file with your state, your previous states annually. mellon was hired to find us, but they were too stupid to Google my name and city (which they had). If they had Googled me, all my info was right there. "nuff said".
