He's been in Chicago at Northwestern Hospital. He had pneumonia pretty bad and died this morning at the age of 50. RIP Bernie
Prayers going out to his family.

He also had sarcoidosis but it had been in remission since 2005. They said he died from the pneumonia though. Such a sad loss of someone so young and talented too.

A sad day indeed, I met him at an event once and his laugh and smile could light up a room. He was definitely a gift!

He was one of my favorites, on stage and off. I laughed my butt off the first time I saw Kings of Comedy. His TV show was good too. It wasn't filled with stereotypical canned jokes and stunts.
He lived out this way, in a modest home with his family. His fame never went to his head, even though the local radio station used to hold daily "Bernie Mac" sightings. He was just a regular guy. Everyone that ever called in talked about how friendly he was when they saw him on the street. Rest in peace, Mr. Mac. Thank you for the belly laughs. |

He had such a nice baritone voice -- I heard him frequently on a radio spot promoting a reading program for children. May he rest in peace.

such a shame so young still, R.I.P. Bernie
I also liked that show of his when he was the uncle to those two kids, loved the sarcasm in that show

My cousin told me yesterday he installed their air and furnace. He said Bernie was a down to earth guy and although he was star struck, Bernie and his wife made him feel at home. He also said Bernie didn't stop on the stage with his joking. He was that way in real life as well. His wife said something funny about the air and furnace and Bernie looked at her serious and said "Since when did you get paid to make the jokes?' lol My cousin said that was priceless and he'll never forget their kindness and how they treated him as an equal.
