Question Anyone know their Beetles? {Bugs ;-) }

OK, I came accross the most unusual looking bug today, and I'd love some help figuring out exactly what it is. {Cog fog prevented me from just taking a pic with my phone }

It was about an inch long. Had the wings of a dragonfly. The head was shaped like a hammerhead shark. The bottom part was shaped like a V. The top part was solid 'armor'...black with green spots...kind of reminded me of camouflage design.

I googled beetles, but cannot find a pic of what I saw. Any ideas? Anyone know their bugs?

My 3yr old and I had fun looking at it. And I would love to find a picture to 'keep the memory'

Thanks in advance.

Could it have been a damselfly? My DD suggested that it may have been (she is a huge bug lover).
