Default Blackberry extract blocks spread of cancer cells

http://www.naturalnews.com/020497.html

NaturalNews) An extract derived from fresh blackberries may reduce the size and spread of cancerous tumors, according to new research published in the June issue of the Journal of Biological Chemistry.

Cell biologist Min Ding and plant physiologist Shiow Wang -- both researchers at the U.S. Agricultural Research Service -- found that the active compound in blackberries is a water-soluble flavonoid called CG3, which is responsible for the fruit's antioxidant power. Diets rich in fruits and vegetables have long been associated with lower incidence of cancer because of the plants' high antioxidant activity, which fights off cancer-promoting free radicals.

To test the antioxidant powers of CG3, Ding and Wang administered the compound to a group of mice with skin tumors, and compared those mice to a group that received no CG3. The researchers observed that the mice treated with CG3 experienced a significant reduction in the growth and spread of tumors.

The researchers also tested the compound on lung cancer tumors -- which are more likely than other forms of cancer to spread

Thanks for sharing.

Maybe my great granny had the right idea.. She ate fresh blackberries with milk and sugar every day that they were in season. She canned no telling how many quarts of blackberries to make pies during the winter. She was never sick and died at 99 peacefully in her sleep.

I miss the days of having rows of wild blackberry bushes near my house. They are just too expense at the grocery store.

Default Blackberry Bushes... memories

I remember having Blackberry bushes in our back yard as kids. We ate them as fast as the birds did. My mom never had a chance to pick them.

We were lucky as kids to live in an area where there were plenty of fruits growing in our "back yard".
We had grape vines, apple trees, plum trees, blackberry bushes, mulberry trees. Then of course our garden was always overflowing with vegetables.

I wish I could have raised my children in such a healthy environment. Playing outside all day, eating fresh fruit off the plants in the back yard. Swimming in the clean rivers and lakes on weekends.

Makes me sad that our world has changed so much.

Well, I've been squeezing my Blackberry for hours and nary a drop.

Clouds Z:

I want you to know how my mind works. When I initially saw the title of your thread, all I saw was the word BLACKBERRIES.

Then I saw the words Extract Cancer.

What was the first thing that came to my mind?

That the powers that be have determined that people who use Blackberrys as their phone and communication device, that they have lower incidences of cancer.

GOD, I HAVE TO GET OUT MORE!!!

lol

Thanks so much for the information. I now have it correct in my brain.

Melody
