Brrrrr ..... it is snowing (and we very rarely get snow here) ....
Just yesterday I bought a jacket on sale that is water repellant and has a zip out fleece jacket in it for added warmth. If this snow keeps up, the kids at the elementary school where I work tomorrow are going to be very excited to play outdoors at recess. (And as I'm standing around supervising, I'm going to be very glad I have a new warm jacket!) I have flowers in pots by my front door and they are getting covered in snow. When we do get snow here, it usually just melts as it hits the ground, but not now. This makes me worry about the hummingbirds that stay year-round here ....

I went to bed late last night ... wondering about how I would manage to get to work in all of this snow. I take the bus and I know the snow really slows down all traffic, especially since we rarely get snow that stays and we just don't have the snow plows to deal with it.
I got up early to turn on the tv and found out that all schools are closed. I'm relieved that I can just stay home! Then I bundled up to head out to shovel my walk and my neighbour's walk. He is a senior who moved from South Africa 10 years ago and he has never seen this much snow! He phoned me yesterday to talk about it and he described his view from his window as "it looks like a huge pillow fight going on out there!" When I was shovelling his walkway yesterday (for the 3rd time) and the snow kept coming down, he called out his front door and offered me a cup of soup! I think he enjoyed the company when I took him up on his offer.

Has it all melted now? We are having warm balmy days but there's a front headed our way....*grin. There's always a spoiler in the forcast. I wonder where the shovel is? Yesterday I had the snow tires put on my car and everyone at Curves thanked me...said now it won't snow for sure!

I'm not sure if you are an early bird or a night owl, Alffe .... (it says you posted at 2:40 am!)
The snow is still here and the sidewalks are a mess of bumpy ice and snow. Yesterday it took me about 30 min. to walk to the Univ. and then my bus was 20 minutes late. Brrrr..... The forecast is for more snow to come. I have some pretty icicles hanging from the bottom edge of my balcony out back.

This is a week now of coping with tons of snow and ice. A couple of nights ago it rained all night and then by morning it had frozen. Not enough warm weather to melt it yet. This is the worst we've seen in 10 years and our city just isn't equipped to deal with it. There are areas where the public buses still can't get into because the roads haven't been cleared.
On Thur. our schools opened an hour later in the morning in hopes that the streets would be a bit better. A teacher at my elementary school fell on the ice and broke a bone in her hand. I also saw on the news that a mail carrier fell and later died from his head injury. I think this weekend it would be a good time to stay in and do my Christmas cards, some baking and working on gifts. I finished another scarf for a homeless person .... they could really use all the warm stuff they can get now.
