Philosophy is the mother of science but is no substitute for scientific empirical study similar to other human sciences. I think that psychology and SGCS (Second Generation Cognitive Science) can be useful in starting such an effort.

Also, I think that there is confusion regarding the meaning of ethics and the meaning of morality. Thus further evidence for the need for an empirical science of morality.

I think that there is also a good bit of confusion as to the meaning of the word "science". I use the word 'science' here to mean a systematic and disciplined study of a domain of knowledge. I do not restrict the word to mean only those domains of knowledge that can be measured with a scale and/or calipers.

I don't define myself by who I love or who loves me. I do define love as a divine intervention and one we all need to learn true morality.

And through that love my morality comes through God and His teachings.

Ooooo, careful, Sandy, such lofty thoughts are best left to Profundus Maximus.

Science could certainly try to study morality or any other thing. But that brings to my mind the scene from Nightmare Before Christmas, when Jack the Pumpkin King experiments on Christmas ornaments to see what the magic is.

I think the answers would be about the same, "Interesting, but what does it mean?"

The very nature of science is mathmatical and only understands and validates that which it can measure with a scale or calipers, that which it can put under a microscope.

Morality will not show on an MRI slide; it is a feature of the human soul. Science hasn't found the soul yet either.

In my world, I do not equate morality with religon, yet many I hold as friends would argue with me. We may both have morals but it's just because of different reasons.. At 16, my kids do not attend church but i sure like and approve their morals I see (hey, I know tghy're teens, I'm not stupid)

I do not believe morality is to be agreed and forced on others. There is not a "right" answer. Now, 3+3 is ALWAYS 6.

Sandy,
Big words are not what get's you into heaven (but although you discredit yourself, you are one of the most rational people I know, IMHO.)
No matter, religon is or anything, there's a big easy chair in heaven with your name on it.
