Remember candy cigarettes? Bubble gum cigars? Going to a store with a grill inside? (In my case it was a K-Mart) and making your own soda flavors by mixing whatever with a Coke? Sometimes it wasn't so good. Remember being able to buy model glue without an I.D? And riding a bicycle without a helmet?

It's amazing that I was able to live as long as I have without "government intervention"!

Remember white knee high boots? Fish net stockings...regular stockings, not knee highs, girls?

Remember going to the drive in-not for the movie?

Remember being able to eat a plate full of food and not gaining weight?

Remember being able to dream of owning one of the yachts you saw as you walked up and down the piers at Monroe Harbor on Lake Michigan?

Remember going to Grandma and Grandpa's house on Sunday for dinner?

I can remember weekends where we did nothing but sit outside in the backyard around the grill while my Dad bbq'ed chickens reeeeal slow.....friends and family would come over and we'd spend the whole day outside just talking...the kids playing kickball in the yard on the side of the house.....somebody would bring an ice cream churn and at some point we'd have ice cream. We'd all fight over who got to turn the handle till we got a turn then decided it wasn't so much fun..... We didn't need alot of "technology" to make us happy.

Anyone remember Colonial grocery stores? I think they had a big rooster on the sign. What about Pinkard Cleaners...that may have been just in GA....but they were everywhere here.

Remember Sunday nights and watching The Wonderful World of Disney? We always got to have popcorn on Sunday nights. No microwave......popped in an old fashioned popcorn popper!

Anyone remember when the multi-colored "toe socks" came out? They were so uncomfortable but I had to have a pair!!

Visiting my grandparents who lived in the country (New Forest, if you know the UK). Water from a well, hand drawn. No electricity. Cows were allowed to roam after morning milking, which was by hand, and my brother and I had to go and find the cows and bring them back for evening. They had bells, which helped. Was allowed on grandfather's horse and cart to "help" with his milk deliveries. I'm not trying to make this sound idyllic, it just was.

Remember when the TV programming would go off the air at midnight. There'd be a picture of the American Flag or some channels just had a snowy picture till the next morning.....and it was 7 AM or something like that before it would come back on! Wonder what would happen if they tried that now? People would go crazy(er)!!

god kel i just got goose bumps yeppers play the nation anthem and snow city on the tube till the farm report at 5 am, wow this is so cool Colin, those sounded like real good memories would give anything to be back in those days, I grew up in chicago till I was ten.5 then to the farm lands and we use to herd cattle back home when they roamed too far and my grannie used a wash board and we had to draw water for them their place was a lot older than ours was no inside water, eventually gams and gamps sold it and it was demolished
