Heart

My kids all got different cases. My oldest was covered on every square inch of her body. Inside her mouth..her privates...

She never complained and acted fine. She was 6. My other daughter was 3, she got about a dozen spots. Each got infected.

My son was a baby, he was just grouchy.

Lil'Monkey (3rd daughter) got the painful itchy kind. What worked the best, was Ambesol and Oral Gel. It numbed her right up.

Doing anything to keep their mind occupied. Movies, video games, talking to friends on the phone, eating whatever they want.

I'm so sorry to hear your kids are suffering from this...I contracted this from my kids when I was 4 weeks pregnant...it was so painful!!
You should be able to get some pain medication for them...I'm not kidding the pain is awful, and I couldn't take anything for it, so I know...call the doc to get something to get them through the first week...
and remind them not to scratch those postules!!!
Good luck, and I hope they can get some relief...

He seems to be doing a bit better today, he's moving around a little easier.

I haven't had to give him any benadryl today so that's a good sign.

I think the zinc oxide has helped a bit.

If you could "google" the worst case of chicken pox there would be a picture of josh.

He must have felt terrible because he couldn't play any video games or chat on the computer.

I'm glad i don't have to go through this again.

Thanks everyone for your tips

glad to hear he is doing better, i know when my one son got pox i started counting his upper torso and stopped the number was unbelievable and i had not even attempted to count the ones on his legs, seems to be a pattern with the pox first can be mild but the others who get it get it big time, hopefully the Zinc keeps working

I am relieved that this acute pox is finally getting better.
I would ask you a question about your son....does he have acne issues? Zinc when low can be found in boys going thru puberty because males use alot of zinc making sperm.
They often get acne on their chests and back too.
Low zinc levels also contribute to ADHD to some extent as well.
But since the zinc oxide is helping I'd suggest a zinc supplement for him daily. A good one is zinc monomethionine (OptiZinc) which is very bioavailable and causes no gastric side effects. Plain old zinc sulfate is pretty hard to take. One OptiZinc daily is enough for most people.

I had a patient several years ago who had herpes in her eye.
I saw her during her second attack and she was getting frightened she would lose vision in that eye. So I searched to find what would prevent herpes attacks and found just a ton of information on zinc. Zinc improves immune function, and improves skin when acne is present. It is the main ingredient in the dermatological vitamin called Nicomide.

Hi Cindy,

How's everyone doing this morning? Chicken Pox are so hard to treat....I got them when I was 26 and actually gave them to my son!! I've never been so sick in my life and had them everywhere. My doctor gave me an antibiotic to take and it seemed to help the sores heal. My son didn't have them nearly as bad as I did...thank goodness. But I've heard that the older you are when you get them the worse it is. I hope your son's doctor gave him something to help him get through this and that he's on the mend now.

My db got them his senior year in high school. He missed his senior prom,
he was sooooooooo sick. I remember my mother saying the doc had
told her that its soooo much more painful to have them as a teen or an
adult versus getting them as a small child. I hope they feel better soon.

He is feeling a little better today, but he has alot in his groin area so sitting for too long hurts.

He is slowing scabbing up, but its amazing how many he has.

He has them in his throat, his eyes, his ears and his scalp is covered also.

Washing his hair hurts too..

He and his brother have been getting spoiled with Tim Horton's Ice Cappucino's , it helps their throats.. or at least that is what they're telling me.

At least the fevers are gone, and he is on the mend.

He sees the doctor later this week since he can't write his exams he needs a doctor's note..
