OMG!!! Will they EVER stop talking about the Chief Justice and his mess-up of the words during the swearing in ceremony!? Every newscaster acts like they are the first to announce it! I guess they just have to find something to talk about.....how about how we all have some hope for the first time in a very, very long time.

I loved Rev. Lowrey's funny speech.....now that was something I'll remember!

“When brown can stick around”

“When yellow can be mellow”

“When the red man can be the head man”

And, "when white will embrace what is right."

I thought our new president gave a very powerful speech. Every time I hear the man talk, I like him more.

God Bless, Sir.

LOL!! We could show up with cookies and casseroles to welcome them to the neighborhood! Think we'd make it past security?

Outfit

I had GMA on this A.M. and they had the designor of The First Lady's outfit on. Yes, it was much warmer than it looked. It had to be warm they said - well of course. It was lined with Pashmina which is a fine cashmere wool. (I looked it up). It comes from the Pashmina goat which is a special breed indigenous to the high altitudes of the Himalayas.

And then, as I said before, she had hand warmers as well. They also said that she wore arm warmers. +24 degrees is like heaven where I come from. And she is used to the cold as well. I can't take the cold like I used to but I'm sure she can.

I liked the gown she chose for the balls that they attended. The designer of the gown was on as well. However, neither of the designers knew that their clothes were picked.

They looked like a very snappy couple I thought.

IMO, the last sentence was totally uncalled for. A very racist remark by the preacher.

well I shall reiterate what I mentioned last night, I for one have not been this optimistic of an incoming president ever, I hope his confidence in his speeches and what ever he can implement to jump start the economy works wonders. I pray and hope this guy will be one of the best presidents we ever had, the kind of pres that will be added to history books right away

:) thanks for posting that FlyingDutchWoman (I think we will nickname you FDW :D )
I grew up in South Africa with a dad of Dutch ancestry and so learned to speak the S African version of Dutch known as Afrikaans. I was always able to understand Dutch and Flemish and even a little German from this

Even tho I have been resident in the USA for almost 20 years, so not using that language...it was a treat to be able to read and understand all of that on the page you posted:p

alles van die beste en angename kennis!

I would have loved to be there. Of course, in my imagination, I am teleported ala Star Trek and seated where I can see everyone just like the television camera catches the images.

I heard on one of the cable news channels that there were no major incidences in the crowd despite the large number. If true, that is truly amazing.

Curious 01-21-2009 06:22 PM

The little boy who danced with Mrs Obama at one of the balls, was from the DFW area. She grabbed his hand and did a little boogey. :D Boy is his mother proud. I'll try and find a link to the news story. It was really cute.

SandyC 01-21-2009 06:35 PM

I saw that Curious and it was adorable the way he looked at her and at Barack. He was so shy he couldn't take that grin off his face!

Kitty 01-22-2009 02:23 PM

All the balls and galas that were televised were just beautiful.

Today they covered the story of Grandma moving into the White House with them....to give the girls some sense of normalcy and in case Michelle has to travel. Apparently Michelle and her mother are very close. I think it's wonderful that these two little girls are going to have the best of both worlds.....growing up in the White House and also having Grandma's lap to curl up in when they need comfort and Mom and Dad are not around.

They both seem like very "hands on" parents, though. What lucky girls! :)

And thanks to everyone here for keeping this a positive post and non-political.

I hope that the media stops looking for things to obsess about, and to attempt to try to tear the administration down...like the obsession with the bungling of the oath of office...today, the media is crying foul that the press wasn't allowed in to witness the redo yesterday...grow up, media!!
It seems as if this president has reinvigorated the masses...which we needed...now we'll see how the masses like the idea of sacrifice...that doesn't include me, does it?

Unfortunately, the media is always looking for the negative. And if they can't find it then they'll twist the truth until it makes a good story.
