Default #1 question for President Obama today

Will you legalize medical marijuana? Over 2,141 questions regarding marijuana have already been registered in all catagories for our President to answer today in an online town hall meeting. The town hall meeting begins at 11:30 AM Eastern today.

The link is: http://www.whitehouse.gov/openforquestions/

If your interested in viewing the questions, simply type in marijuana in the search field.

Well that was a complete blow off of medicinal marijuana. We watched the video (I couldn't watch live because my Internet went out). President Obama laughed at the marijuana question, questioned the on-line community, laughed again, and said no he did not see how legalizing marijuana would help the economy. By the way, he only addressed one question about marijuana and it was the one to legalize marijuana all around. He did not answer any question about medicinal marijuana.

That's all fine and most likely correct about legalizing marijuana for all, however, many of those questions were about people who are sick and asking for marijuana to be legalized for medicinal purposes. I did not find his humor amusing, nor his lack of compassion for those asking legitimate questions regarding the medicinal use of marijuana.

When he was a Senator he was all for legalizing marijuana for medicinal purposes and even said he thought too much money was being spent to keep it illegal. Now that he's President his mindset has changed.

Hopefully he was just making fun of the idea that the US could make money off of it. In all reality they do tax alcohol and cigarettes but it's not in the near future to revamp the drug war in his mind.

I am disappointed but this happens with all Presidents and it's reality. I just hope he can stop laughing and start taking issues that are important to some of us a little more seriously.

So I guess we can go out and get wasted and kill our liver, smoke till our lungs are black and we die. But nope, no medicinal marijuana to relieve pain, spasms and a whole host of other health concerns. Now that's ironic.

I was also disappointed in his response, especially since it was a popular question in the first place.

He did not address the medical reason for the question. It was a reference to the recreational aspect.

I don't know why he wouldn't legalize marijuana - he's legalized everything else - and it's the #1 crop of California -

I agree Clouds. He did at least decriminalize it enough to allow states to decide what to do. Illinois may make it legal here on Monday. Stay tuned!

Mexican Drug Lord, Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman officially thanks American Lawmakers for keeping drugs illegal.

wow. With all that is going on at our border, I wish Congress and our president would get a clue.

Hmmmmm? Legalize it and have the money go in America's pocket rather than drug lords?? At least pull the Feds out of states that approve medicinal use (come on, throw us a bone) If at 53 I could score some. jeez enough is enough. Make it legal. Is he/they gonna lock up this 53 year old MS mother?
(sniff, sniff) They'll have to wheel me off in my to jail in my wheelchair. I'll wave to you all.

I agree with everyone who thinks marijuana should be legal but... Obama's got his hands full at the moment - in a big way. Legalizing MJ is a monumental shift for our country and would turn every other effort he's undertaken into some sort of a hippie joke. He's got enough landmark decisions to make and unprecedented problems to solve so... he can't afford to do it now. Maybe in his last term? After sorting out one of the biggest economic crises in history??
I do not want to see kicker in the slammer!!!

I did not do well in my government classes so I will ask this question for those paying attention to this thread.

It is not up to Obama to actually introduce legislation, right? Isn't it introduced in the House of Representatives or Senate and a bill is created for the President to sign?

Doesn't it go more on a local level? In AZ and CA, I thought it was legal. Although on Larry King, I did see a guy that had been arrested for his MJ boutique...medical boutique.

Maybe I will google it and see if someone does not have the answer here so that I can be lazy!
