Heeellllloooooooo !
Ok, I didnt know where to post this as I dont know if it is part of an illness and if so, which one, so, I decided to post it here just to see if anybody has had this phenomenon.... Recently, I have been noticing that when I close my eyes, I dont see simply black, but I see like blue flashes of light.... OR shapes, like green squares.... I open my eyes and for seconds, I can still see light flashes.... Im starting to worry... Do this sounds like Im hallucinating ??? or... I dont know... I feel crazy.... Im not taking any medicine at the moment.... Just vitamins and omegas.... Has anybody had something similar !? Thanks for reading this weird message. |

Is it all the time , or just once in awhile?
The description kind of made me think of the time I had an optical migraine. It was only once but lasted about 25 minutes and faded away, I felt wiped out afterward. I had flashes, sparkles, fireworks and kind of distorted vision while it was happening. Seemed very spacey to me. If it keeps happening I would get your eyes checked for starters.

Boy, it's comforting to hear I'm not the only one.
I've had this on two occasions, each lasted a few days. It made it impossible to sleep, and every time I'd start to drift off, another "Firework" would light up and make me wake up in a panic. I have no idea if this was anxiety (the first time it happened I was going through a lot of stuff), MS, a combo, or something else completely. I never told my doctor. All I know is that it always scares the heck out of me.

If these last only a minute or two? Then they may be after images. These occur as opposite colors from the light you previously saw.
Blue after image will occur when you stare at an orange bright subject and then look away or close the eyes. Green will appear from a red source. Here is an article about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afterimage

All right,
At this point, Im not sure what was that.... I think it was a mix of after images with an optical migraine.... It is really, really comforting to read Im not getting crazy and that Im not the only one with that phenomenon ! I think I actually had an aura the night before as I was trying to sleep and started to see those blue flashes... I even woke up as I was "sure" there was a police car with its blue lights in my room ! Then, the next morning, I had funny vision and my head hurt and I could barely opened my eyes due to the photophobia I had.... ! I ended taking a sydolil which helped... so, Im thinking about migraine ?? I definetely think I also "suffer" with the after image thing.... I also recall reading that people with fibromyalgia "see" funny when their eyes are closed.... Thanks all. |

Thanks MRsD for the link... "In a visual disturbance called palinopsia, patients have an increased propensity for seeing afterimages, having both a reduced amount of time required to form an afterimage, and an increased duration of the afterimage. Positive afterimages are particularly noticeable, such that even routine eye movement is often accompanied by flickers of what the eye has scanned over (called "tracers"). However, increased negative afterimages are also experienced by palinopsia sufferers. It is unknown if the negative afterimages encountered in palinopsia are formed by the same process described above, although what little research that exists regarding the phenomena suggests that it is brain-related, and not eye-related. Palinopsia can be a persistent condition, but it is also experienced periodically by migraine sufferers." And more about Palinopsia... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palinopsia |
