Ah, candy cigarettes - the one that if you puffed you could actually "smoke". lol Oh, oh, the powdered suckers - I loved those things! And what was the stuff called - flavored liquid inside wax bottles - have no clue but I used to get that quite often. Candy necklaces were so cool and ooh, Lick Em Sticks - a candy stick you stuck in a divided pouch filled with two flavors of pure sugar - every parents nightmare!

I fondly remember the chocolate flavored stuff called Space Food. It had a tootsie roll texture, only softer. I remember eating this stuff oh, about 30 some years ago. I think Pillsbury might have made it. I STILL miss this stuff.

I miss Tocarra perfume by Avon. It had a great scent and if you rubbed your wrists together it would reactivate the fragrance.

I remember Avon's Sweet Honesty and I thought I they brought the fragrance back.

And oh yes, I miss that little general store that was in a two story house that we'd stop by every so often, usually when dad needed to get cigarettes. Oh, how I loved to go inside and get some penny candy!

I miss collecting pop bottles and bringing them to Elmer's garage. He'd give you the nickel a piece, and we'd buy another bottle of Grape Crush and some candy bars - a nickel each. You had to watch with that pop machine though, the old kind with a fridge type door, and the metal hook things that wrapped around the neck of the bottles. Good way to break a finger if you weren't careful.

I remember when Marathon bars came out. Had to try them, the biggest one in the case.

And Charleston chews.

That was back when everyone wanted to wear track shoes, and we all had a transistor radio - and the dj still told you what song you were hearing and what band did it.

I think I was the only HS girl who did not have either the *Farrah* or a *Dorothy Hammil* haircut.

There was still a Burma Shave sign or should say a set of them not far from where I lived.

the talk of nostalgic perfumes made me think of 4711 eau de cologne
my mom and all the ladies would either wear that or a Yardley Lavender perfume.....

nostalgia for childhood treats makes me think of little packs of sweet-sour sherbet with a liquorice stick straw tucked into them to swoosh the sherbet powder up with and then the yummy liquorice to chomp afterward

great thread

This thread warms my heart. I love this kind of stuff. I think online once someone stated you can buy some of the old favorites. I don't think there a penny though.

Crazy I miss

My mother; when even 12-year olds knew who the Rolling Stones were; when I had the energy to ride a bike; When I could ride a bike, knowing that if I fell, I would probably NOT break every bone in my body; when I could walk 3 miles and not even be winded; when I could walk 3 BLOCKS and make it back home. Getting old is not for the weak. billie

I miss "Saliba's" & "Grannie's", where I could buy penny candy on the way to school and "Green's" after school & on weekends.
Braingonebad, I often took a glass bottle to Green's for 2 cents allowing me to get 2 pieces of Bazooka bubble gum.

I miss the local bakery. I would go in with my mom, I do not remember what she may have bought but I always hoped she would let me get a chocolate brownie. It was not every time and I never asked.

I miss the smell of my elementary school when the lunch room was serving soup. In my school, a hot lunch was served cafeteria style - sorta. We would go down the line and see the lunch lady ladle out food on trays.
