Default Night Owls #4

Okay, Curious, I give it up to you...(Idealist bows in deep respect to the master). The fate of my weight is in your hands!

So tell me, huh? huh?, what's a poor ol' skinny guy gonna do to put on twenty or so pounds without gaining himself a gargantuan "love-handle"? (By the way, you'd be luck to pinch an inch right now.)

I don't know that I could do the ensure thing. I strongly dislike "thick" or syrupy drinks. I don't drink more than half-a-dozen sodas in a year. I pretty much just stick to my teas and my decaf coffee.

The med he prescribed is actually a tricyclic antidepressant. You may have heard of it, it's called amitriptylene. But he prescribed it in mega doses. I took it once before for sleep, at 25mg. Now I'm supposed to take 150mg every night! According to what I can find, 150mg is the maximum daily dose, but it's usually spread out over three times a day. My doc wants me to take it all at once, just before I climb in bed, 'cause it might have some "weird" side-effects for a while...

I don't much care for sweets. I like very lean foods. My favorite kind of chicken is a plain white chicken breast baked in the oven with no oil, butter or spices at all to flavor it. So you can see my problem here. I'd be happy if I could put on FIVE pounds in the next thirty days, let alone FIFTEEN!

Help me out here, my friend. Please...

Hi there .... I'm just wondering about your new med. Are you going to be starting at a lower dose and then increasing it to 150 mg? It just seems like a lot to be taking at once .... especially since your doctor said it might have some 'weird' side effects.

Smart question, Scrabble... Yeah, actually I'm starting on 50, increasing to 100 after a week, and then to 150 in another week.

But when I looked up the med in my "pill book", at such a dosage it listed as "most common side-effects" such things as hallucinations, disorientation, and quite a few other disturbing things. I don't like the sound of that at all!

If they start making me feel too weird, I'll stop taking them. I trust my doc, I really do. But I trust my body more.

So how was your day, Scrabble, dear?

My crazy neuro put me on this topamax. You have to increase slowly with this med too!!
He told me .Oh just increase up to 200mg.I asked him, should'nt i go slow?He said your fine.Just take an extra pill.I did'nt know any better back then.Well lo and behold..I broke out in one of the worst rashes i ever had in my life!!!!
Also i felt REALLY funny in the head!!When i called ..He says maybe we adjust your dose down to 150mg..DUH!!!YATHINK???
So sometimes they dont know best.I always read up on the meds.I also read up on interactions..

Well I'm glad you aren't taking it all at once to start out with!

I went through some weird 'stuff' while starting an AD a while ago. (Wellbutrin) I had very vivid dreams for a while that were rather strange. I didn't always remember what I had been dreaming about but when I did recall, it seemed that I was trying to do something or solve something and I would wake up feeling agitated and restless. I ended up trying to take my 2 doses farther away from bedtime and that seemed to help in the end. Initially I was told by my doctor to take one dose just before going to bed to avoid having an upset stomach. Luckily I didn't have that problem though.

*waves at Kell!

Kitty proofed your house???

(I know what you mean ... I just initially read that as if it was your cat, named Kitty, who had proofed your house after you cleaned it!) hee-hee!

LOL @scrabble.I went back and read it after you said that and it does kinda read that way
Funny!!
Having kitties run around is similar to having little kids running around.I have to make sure theres nothing that can hurt them..Since i have not felt like doing much. There was much to do..HeeHee
I'm still not finished.I m doing it in increments-otherwise i will be in massive pain!
