Recently I was diagnosed through gentic testing with Spinocerebellar Ataxia Type 2. SCA was recently added to the list of Compassionate Allowances. Does anyone have any experience with compassionate allowances? I am still able to work but find it getting more difficult. Ant help would be great.

Jeep in min you can earn up to $1,000 net a months which after legitimated deduction like medications, etc. Check with SSA to find out what deductions you can take and add that to $1,000 and that's the limit you can earn while on SSDI. I suggest you start writing your application now. It took me 6 months to write all the answers, doctor's letters and collection of medical evidence but I won my benefits in three months because the application was so thorough. I do not recommend on line or phone interviews to apply. The application can be found in PDF format at http://www.ssdi-help.com/ssaforms/ssa-forms.htm or by calling SSA (Social Security Administration). Good luck, Trudi

Compassionate allowances are a quick way to make a favorable medical determination with minimal evidence. Basically you just need medical documentation to support your diagnosis. They should not bother you with filling out functional questions or work history. Diagnosis on the compassionate allowance list are flagged for expedition. Decisions are made quickly provided the medical evidence is received quickly. Of course you will still need to meet the non-medical requirements of eligibility.
