Default SSI Letter - Approved?

Hi everyone,

I am new to the forums, though I've been reading quite a few threads prior to registering. Before I ask my question, I'd like to thank you folks who take the time to help so many others out!

For the past three or so years, I have been fighting for SSI due to a disabling chronic pain condition. It has been a tough battle due in no small part to my age (I'm only 25 now, and was younger when this started). My application and appeal were both denied. Fortunately, by the time I ended up before the ALJ, I had my doctor's support and an abundance of medical records to support me.

Today, I received a letter from SSI concerning my case. I think it is telling me I was approved, but here's the part that concerns me ...

Quote:
We need more information to decide if we can pay you SSI. Therefore, it is important that you do the following:

* We will call you on <date>. Please let us know if this telephone number is wrong, or if this is not a good time for you.

If we have asked to talk to you, it is because we need to discuss your disability claims. We were recently notified by the administrative law judge that your disability claim was medically approved. Therefore, we need to update your SSI claim before any benefits can be released.
Is the above an approval letter? Is it normal for this interview to come with SSI approval?

My impression is that I was approved, and they're now figuring out how much money to give me, but ... After all this time, I'm almost afraid to believe that I won.

Default Go find a senentor take your papers to them.

Find a local Senetor and take all your papers into them. My husband had an attorney we were going a year and half of 4 turn downs. We took our papers to a senetor in our town and the 3 months later got our approval and back pay. It's way worth it do it. Good luck.

That's the third time you have suggested bypassing the Social Security office. Sounds to me like the local office is gathering the documents and evidence needed to figure the payment. Not sure what a senator could do. They don't know how to make checks appear in mailboxes. Only Social Security employees can do that.

Hi,

I think my question may have been misinterpreted.

With the above excerpt, I was just looking for a second opinion on whether that's saying I am approved for benefits. If it is, great! Just don't want to get happy and then find myself sorely disappointed over a mistake.

Like I said, I guess it's partly a reluctance to easily accept victory after a lot of struggle.

It sounds as though you've been approved. It could be they need to know some details first perhaps, maybe they need an address, bank info for direct deposit etc. Or perhaps the amount of your current resources. It certainly is not a rejection. It seems to state it here:

"We were recently notified by the administrative law judge that your disability claim was medically approved"

No its not the approval yet I recieved this same letter about 2 weeks ago. they called me and asked some questions about my living situtation and income, children age just basic questions to see if you qualify. This is my first time responding and I'am glad to be able to help because I was teriffied when I got this letter and did not know what to expect so don't worry.

Recieved a check today for some of my backpay $2,000 so it took about 2 weeks to send me a check and the date on the letter said they approved me two days after the interview.

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to thank you for your replies.

I received another letter yesterday, this time containing the judge's ruling, which was fully favorable. Now, I just have to wait for the phone call, probably to discuss all of the things menme mentioned above.

Will let you know how it goes.

Remember that the SSI program is a public assistance program and all the questions you were asked in this interview will be asked periodically for as long as you are on SSI. And that changes in your living situation, value and ownership of any asset and money received from any source can either reduce or stop SSI benefits. These changes must be reported every time there is a change and if you are on SSI the rest of your life, then that is how long you have to report.
