Default What to expect, SSDI Mental Exam?

I'm not anxious about this really, but my batting average for doing things once or for the first time is nothing to holler about. Is this a written exam, an oral exam, does it require lengthy sitting session? I have little to no info even after searching, because it seems terms are different in different areas.

Thanks

They just want to see if you are mentally stable to withhold a job. Can you remember things? Can you do your job and not lose your temper towards the customers, things like that.

Can I remember things? I couldn't remember three of the four words she gave me to remember. I couldn't think of a fourth large city in the US, finally threw in Indianapolis. I got home and looked it up, it's 14th on th list so that' not too bad. Couldn't remember my hobbies?

I've never been a good test taker, and when time pressure is added, stress takes over. But it is done and now we are onto the physical.

Thanks

When I initially applied for SSI (mid to late 2010), the only "doctor" the SS Admin sent me to was a psychiatrist. The mental exam stated that he felt the only employment I could do would require a sedentary, non-repetitive, stress free position. I was never seen by any other doctor (other then my own that are treating me).

I have since consulted with and hired an attorney. It's pretty pathetic how one has to really fight for something that they have paid into for many, many years. I was leaving my epidural yesterday, hobbling on my cane and my husband's arm - clearly in pain, and a bit out of it from the sedative. We were almost ran over by a man and woman practically running around the corner, each one "using" their canes. I almost said something, but they were moving too fast and my husband ushered me into the elevator. He knew what I was going to say - this is what makes it so hard, yet some people get "lucky" and know how to work the system. It seems that there are people out there that have been too busy working and paying into the "system", that missed the "free ride" class. Oh well, at least my conscious is clear and pain-free while the rest of me may have trouble going to sleep at night.

hi Patti

My husband just went and seen a doctor for this mental exam for depression

He asked what he does if he cooks or does laundry If he socializes and he also asked if he gets angry easy which he does all n all it went good.

My husband is very depressed as far as I can see Also the doctor said he would get this to ss straight away so hopefully we will hear something soon.

Don't worry and God Bless and Good Luck we all need it

I hope everything goes well with your husband! I just don't think it is right for the government to base it upon one visit with the shrink. For the doctors to get to fully understand the depth of depression and the good days versus the bad days, it seems like more then one visit would be required.

I will say that I have found since the SSI's mental exam, my mind seems to be getting worse. I think it also has something to do with the failed surgeries that followed - the 2 spinal cord stimulator implants, the re-torn meniscus and the spreading of the RSD. I know we will be okay, it's just the struggle gets old.

Again, good luck to you and your hubby! I hope that you are taking care of yourself as well!

Perhaps these people who were using canes and walking fast were hurrying to get to their jobs. I don't know that you can concluded that these people who walk fast with a cane are using the system unless you somehow know from another source that they are receiving disability benefits. Perhaps these people have had significant improvement from when their were first injured and are getting ready to get back into the work force. You also don't know how that person may feel the next day from however they overexerted themselves. Just like no one can draw a conclusion about you on a good day.

many people use a cane for balance if they have numb feet or legs and not for support.
