Default Does ssdi backpay affect food stamps

I will be receiving a little over 10K backpay from SSDI with no further monthly payments This is all I have to live on while I am waiting on my appeal. I am currently receiving $200 a month food stamps. Will they cut off the food stamps because I have over the $2000 limit? Most of the backpay will go to my father who is paying my rent. Does that make a difference?

The way this reads is you can only get food stamps if you are on SSI. Here is the link maybe it's different in your state.

This is an interesting question. I recently discovered that my 16 yr old daughter's biological father was receiving SSI for a disability and had been receiving it for about 7 or 8 years. He is an "absent" parent, and I have not pursued child support. I did apply for her SSI benefits through him, and was originally told that it would be "back dated" because he did inform them on his application. I was also given a dollar amount of around $500 a month, but was surprised when it actually came out to be $103 a month. I was told that this was because he had received Workers Compensation (and still might be) benefits so they offset it.

I guess what I don't understand is how it would affect the benefits to her. I would think that they would give her the benefit amount that is allowed for her and offset it from the amount he receives. The question I have is - does it sound like he is receiving benefits via Workers Comp for her? If so, how do I contact Workers Comp to find out or "apply" for her benefits? Supporting her has never been an issue until our car accident and my many surgeries. Right now, we are getting by because our home is paid off and the auto insurance is paying benefits for attendant care to my husband. He is having to take care of me and help me with my doctor's appointments, etc. Is it worth looking into or do I just let it ride?

Also, since I received PIP benefits from my auto (loss wage replacement) will this be used to offset the amount of SSI benefits I could be approved for? My application for SSI is back dated to the original date of my "disability". I could call my attorney, but I hate talking on the phone right now because my words are funky, thought process funky and I have a horrible, horrible dry mouth.

Thanks for the help in advance

If your child is entitled to benefits from a parent's record, that is not SSI (Supplemental Security Income). SSI is a welfare disability program. Sounds like the father is receiving SSDI (Social Security Disability Insurance) and there are potential benefits for his children. If he has children other than your daughter, those children share in the family maximum.

Worker's compensation and public disability benefits due offset SSDI benefits and the auxilliaries (children/spouse) are the first to be offset. That's the regulation. Doesn't sound like there is anything for you to apply for with worker's comp. You may want to let her father know that you are receiving these auxilliary benefits and if he is no longer getting worker's comp, the offset may no longer be applicable. But he needs to provide the evidence to SSA.

Not sure what your PIP benefits are, but it does not sound like either worker's compensation or public disability benefits, so there will probably not be an offset.

Patti.....assuming you are talking about SSDI benefits for your daughter from your ex....

I received WC benefits for the first 2 years I was getting SSDI.

You should remember that SSDI limits yourall of your disability income (family benefit from SSDI plus LTD or WC) to 80% of your pre disability salary. In my case, that means I collect $70 less each month and my 2 sons collect $384 less each month than we 'should' be getting because our SSDI is offest by some of the WC.

If I were you, I would contact the food stamp office. Disabled people on SSDI have a different limit criteria than the general population. In my state, the limit is $3000 if you are on SSDI.
