I know right..That is the part that stinks you should check your policy with Metlife because they can include "auxillary or children benefits" to be considered as income for you therefore it reduces their monthly benefit to you.
I know it isn't fair because my benefit was based solely on the amount of my wages from my employer and did not include any allowances for the amount of children you have.

Wow, sorry to hear that. Thank God I don't have MetLife or anything in my policy regarding "auxillary or children's benefits". I only had to repay what they paid me for me.

Childrens Benefits

I also have Metlife. I am having to payback around 7k of backpay. I am confused on how they create those numbers. I am now being told by Metlife that I have to file for my children. Interesting that they did not know I had two dependents. Can they force you to apply for them? How do you find out if they can take the income from the children?

Robert,
What they will do is once you are approved for your children they will deduct their benefits from your monthly benefit amount. The overpayment will start if lets say you were receiving 700 a month since 1/10 then your children benefits are approved from 1/10 as well. If your children benefits are lets say 300 a month basically they will calculate they should have only been paying you 400 a month instead of the 700 a month then multiply the difference from 1/10 to the present month you receive benefits. They did not take my children's back pay however they calculated an prorated overpayment that somehow was more than what I received for their backpay. Very confusing but it was in my policy and you will have to apply for your children benefits if it is in your policy as well. I wish you luck.
