I live the pick in Chemar's sig.
It also fits the topic....there's the potential for danger/disaster all around us. We just have to try to keep moving forward, taking the best path we see at the time.

The above link that I cited was taken from Federal News Radio; open to all. The highlighted "Memo" in the article takes you to the SSA website. |

I just this minute read the following in a news bulletin. I do not understand what this means. "WASHINGTON - The House has passed legislation conditioning a $2.4 trillion increase in the nation's borrowing cap on a tea party-backed plan to require immediate spending cuts and a constitutional amendment requiring a balanced budget. The 234-190 vote sends the "cut, cap and balance" plan to the Democratic-controlled Senate, where it has virtually no chance of passing. With the House tally cast, attention is returning to efforts in the Senate to provide President Barack Obama authority to impose an increase in the debt limit without approval by Congress and on a new Senate "Gang of Six" proposal to cut the deficit by almost $4 trillion over the coming decade." Can someone translate this for me? Thanks much, Mel

Any legislation concerning spending must originate in the house of Representatives. If passed, it must then move to the Senate, where it can be debated and modified, before it goes to the President. Since the Senate is still dominated by Democrats, passage of the House bill as it stands is unlikely, especially since the President has already threatened to veto and has indicated his unwillingness to mess with SS and Medicare.
Don't shoot me if I am wrong, but this is my understanding. I find it disturbing that the TP has had this much influence, but in my opinion without a basic grasp of economics and government.
