Default social security disibility being overloaded

i read a article in my local newspaper this morning about how the social security disibilty system is being overloaded.people who can't find jobs and are desperate for money are overloading the system with new applications.unfortunatly, social security disibility doesn't work like unemployment benefits.you have to qualify, and it's a long drawn out process with many denials and appeals that could take years to win a approval.people who are suffering in this economy don't have time for that process and trying to get social security disibility benefits is their last resort.

I agree..it is a grueling process and I think that someone who does not have a true disability would give up at some point.

The same article was in our paper. People are finding all sorts of ways to try and win. Many are faking depression symptoms. Depression is not fun trust me I suffer from this and other mental disorders. They are going this route because you can't see it on an Xray. If the Government was smart they would throw out all of these people if they have not been treated by a psyahairist or psychologist for a certain amount of time. But I fear many will win as they have no where else to turn for income. There are millions that are trying to fool the system and try for benefits this way. It makes it bad for the legit people trying tp win for legit reasons. It will only get worse. I do not see it getting better anytime soon. It scares me as in the future there is no way they will be able to pay out benefits to everyone. I just hope they dont make us take a cut in our benefits.

Sadly they may be more on top of reviews then so new applicants. SSA is broke as is America, so they really want to get as many as possible off of SSDI. Take your meds, dont work too much and see your docs when your supposed to.

SSA is not broke and America is not broke. There are those who would lead you to believe this for their own political agenda. The wealth is still there but it is steadily being concentrated in fewer and fewer hands.

Another reason for the overload of applicants could be that those workers that were borderline but able to work at an "easy" job, possibly got laid off or the job was discontinued.. due to the economy...

If they had unemployment benefits , maybe those ran out so applying for SSDI , might be the only option left at this time.
