Tongue Question on a condition...& SSDI

Is morbid obesity considered a disability? Does anyone here know someone who won with this as the reason for the application? I don't want to get too specific, as I know it's a hard topic to talk about, but I know someone who has MO and can't afford the weight loss surgery and I doubt they would want it either after all the side effects of it. So anyway, is MO a condition they can and have approved SSDI for someone over?

Pamster up in the Useful Links, there are several sites that have lists of conditions. I don't know if morbid obesity is one though.

Default Morbid Obesity and Disability

Hello,

Morbid Obesity USED to be considered an impairment for SS disability. But they deleted that catagory. But they are supposed to "consider" the effects of MO when evaluating your other conditions.

Example: If you have breathing problems already, then they know that being MO will cause even more breathing problems, etc.

Sorry, wish I could have had a better answer for you, but that is what I found out when I researched that very subject a while back.

Thank you both, I appreciate the information. I thought it was a category before but I guess I am remembering something from before this person last tried to get SSDI. Thanks again for the information.

If you use the link below you can see the list of impairment codes that SS uses for disability. Impairment code 2780 is Obesity.
