Default on ssi/ssdi

I've been on ssi/ssdi for about 3 years now & just recently been approved for section 8 housing. I receive very little on ss & have been struggling for most of the time. I'm afraid to get my hopes up tho. I know that when we try to get ahead alittle; something happens & they take something away. (we received a SS cost of living this year & then they raise medicare co-pay)
So I thing I should not get too hopeful. They did tell me that since my income is so low, they will pay all of my rent & pay me some to help on my ulitilties((?)) --- but then I can imagine my food stamps dropping & my medical help too. I would just be happy if I could pay my own expenses & bills without relying on my mother so much. She's been my "rock" & I know she has her own struggles in her life too.
I guess I'm just wondering if anyone out there is or was going thur the same.
I thank you for any info or ur comments.

Default Tough living on SSDI

Anyone without additional income sympathizes with your plight. I know I do. Have you applied for Medicaid (or Medical in CA)? They will pay your co-pays and for l;ow income people you can get your prescription insurance at a lower cost.

Default Hi Jaycojade

Yes, I struggle also. Living on medicare, medicaid, SSDI and food stamps. I worked 30 years. I have been reduced to asking my son at times to pay for things. Like my dental so I don't loose my teeth. I lost every dime two generations worked for because of no insurance for medical. I know many who are in the same sinking boat. I wish it were better for all of us. I too will eventually have public housing, I am afraid of that situation. ginnie

**waving from across the river**

Pa is the ONLY state that people in need are not taking advantage of the food stamp (SNAP) program. So much so, that in every major & minor newspaper, the local news outlets in all of the Tri-State areas are making sure everyone in "need" get what is due them regarding food stamps. So I wouldn't worry about Pa reducing or even dropping yours. You can view the minimum and maximum monthly benefit amounts chart: http://www.dpw.state.pa.us/foradults...ogram/D_000639

Also, Pa has a wealth of huge supermarket like Food Banks which you should take advantage of if you have not already done so. All the food is FREE!

I am going through similar things....I don't receive any income whatsoever... so it is very difficult for me to make it. I empathize with the people on the street...I have been outdoors as well due to not being able to work. Keep your head up!

Thanks again for all of your info; Starting in April hud will be paying my rent. I'm wondering if I need to notify welfare? I know when there's any income changes you need to let them know. I don't receive any cash, but I do receive medicaid & foodstamps. And I know the two (hud & welfare) work together, so do I call?

To ladydeedee; someone like yourself makes ppl stop & think about their own situations & then think "Wow, I thought I had it bad & then they realize things could be worse" I wish you luck & hope for your own situation, ur in my prayers.

Default Hi Jay

Yes, It would be a good idea to report the change. It is better you tell them, than if they think you were hiding something. These agencies do work together. I have also been honest and report all changes. My son gave me money for the dentist, quite a bit, and ran a check through our joint account. Yes I reported it. no trouble at all.
Jay please keep ladydeedee in your thoughts and prayers. I am trying to help her find a solution, or direction. She is indeed in trouble, and I don't want her to have to live outside again. If you have any ideas, please post them to her. The more people who try and help the better. thanks Jay, ginnie

Default HI Trudy and Jay, Don too

I struggle too with disability. I am sorry we are all in the same boat. We have all had to get some assistance, and it sure is not easy. I will keep you all in my prayers. Trudy and Jay, I have added Lady deedee, I have known Don a long time now. WE do pray, and I will be thinking and praying for you too. ginnie
