Thanks for all the replies.

I called the office and advised them that I had received notice from Dept of Families that SSI had been denied and inquired about the appointment today.

The person put me on hold for a few minutes then stated that they are not allowed to tell anyone over the phone that they had been denied but since another agency had sent me the notice he can verify the appointment was to verify that SSI was denied. He also stated he will be sending the reconsideration and appeal information in the mail.

So odd that they would schedule and appointment and tell me to bring my Mother just to tell me I was denied. I can only think since I am on so many meds they read the psych report and did not want me to drive.

It is all to odd to me. I will keep trying and reading here.

Thanks again,

Mystery solved! I called the office again and asked Why, if my appointment was to notify me of the SSI denial would my Mother need to attend? They said there was a flag or something on my pysch report that indicated that due to my mental state someone would need to be with me if I was denied.

So I guess I am disabled enough that I cannot attend a disability meeting by myself but not disabled enough for SSI. LOL but not really.

I am sure there will be more posts from me once I receive the reconsideration and appeal documents, appreciate all the support.

SSI sissy

I am sorry you are being put through all this. It really isn't funny. If you are disabled enough for them to think you need your mom, then to deny you doesn't make much sense. So many of the things they require of us are flat out unreasonable. I do hope you keep the process going, and get your coverage. Keep coming back for support. I sure do, and it does help. Take care sissy, ginnie

i would put exactly that fact in your reconsidertion paper work about requiring your mother because of your psychological disability to be with you when you were denied. make copies of the notice they sent you and include it. plus of course whatever else you have to file.

Why didn't I think of that Echoes?

Yes you are absolutely correct, that should be documented and stated just that way! If they are so worried for her mental state, why don't they appove her. Makes sense to me. ginnie

If you get a formal denial letter I would advise appealing rather then filing a new claim often it takes yrs to get through the process and get to an appeals judge and by then if you get a psych. Dr you will then have more evidence to support your claim.

Best of luck, Linda

I just want to explain these options. If you go through all the steps and end up before an ALJ, the process is a long one. It can realistically take a few years. The good thing is that you might get the backpay going back to the original application date. It is not at all uncommon to end up having to compromise on the alleged onset date, though.

It's going to be near impossible to get an approval without receiving treatment for conditions that can reasonably be expected to see improvement with therapy and/or meds.

If you start treatment, and a doc decides that you have a severe psych impairment that will keep you from working for at least 1 year, regardless of his/her care, then a new application (with proper documentation) COULD be granted in just a few months.

You might want to see if there is a local advocacy group that can help you with getting treatment and/or SSI process.

There are liability issues regarding these type of notifications, so policies are setup for everyone making that type of claim, and I doubt very highly this can be used as proof of a psych claim. The local SS office isn't handpicking who needs special notification based upon merit, just simply that that type of claim has been made at all.

I've had to undergo psych evals several times relating to my physical disability. My attorney's office and the insurance company will not accept the liability of giving ANYONE a copy of their reports. Where as, the doc that performed them, trusted that I was stable and handed them right over.
