Hopefully the OP will return to clarify exactly what is being asked as it is very confusing...I understood her follow up post to mean she was referring to SSDI not SSI, but see now she may have been mentioning that she thought your link was only for SSDI LIT LOVE...

dedicated account

please start a dedicated account ONLY for the child. When social security and/or the irs team up they can leave you on the street starving, all accounts drained. get a debit card and use it ONLY for the child..Check his/her eligibility for food stamps as well. Consider becoming a cna, I believe that you can be paid for taking care of your own child. our Government will move heaven and earth to get what they think is theirs. best to you and yours..rob

Clarification: son was found to disabled SSDI~ I am his rep payee

No, my son was found disabled by the administrative judge in an appeal, that's why it took so long. It's SSDI and the rules are different. The dedicated account is kind of a headache.
My original question was, has anyone heard of time limit to spend the money for dedicated accounts lump sums, or can you let it sit there accruing interest (this is a SSDI dedicated account specific with me as rep payee for my son)

thanks for clarifying that it is SSDI not SSI angangel.

I am going to change the title of your thread and add a line to your first post then to avoid any further confusion, as you had initially said SSI

I hope not... please advise...

**Please note later post where it is clarified that this is SSDI not SSI**

New answer is that I don't know why she thinks there is a time limit or if this is a minor child or an adult.

Best new answer is I don't know.

But my answer about SSI for a disabled child was spot on. Just not for this poster.

I think the lady at Soc Security gave me some misleading info when I was asking questions, and it wouldn't be the first time.

I kind of panicked because she made it seem like the lump sum money had to be spent in a year or it goes back to SS and I think she meant, you have to pay it back if they don't approve what you spent it on.
I am cool with it now and think I "get" it...

Does anyone know if the process to keep your receipts and vouch for the money is intense, or like an audit or are they overworked and if it sounds legit, then they don't question (I guess I'm paranoid now)

:circlelove:Thank you for all your help everyone.

So, OP:

Are you simply a representative payee for your adult son, that was approved for SSDI?
