Trig Letter from SSI

Just got a letter today from SSI saying they can't pay me anything with my new claim since my last insured date is June 2012 and they determined that I wasn't disabled before then. They said I am also not entitled to any other benefits.

I don't know what I am going to do. I've never felt lower in my entire life. All I want to do is kill myself right now. I feel I have no other choice. No purpose or point to my life. I can't get the help I need.

Hello Kittypaw
So sorry you are not getting the help you need from doctors and SS, but I hope you will reach out to others here who will offer you support.
We have a special forum related to suicide, so please do talk to others there. Here is the link http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum29.html

Because of the very sensitive and triggering nature of suicidal discussions, we prefer that only that forum be used for that topic.

I am so sorry to hear about your delimma. I am hoping your last paragraph is only an expression of momentary despair and not a serious thought. I once said "i might as well just die" and did not have any intention of doing away with myself, just felt like the only way to express my despair. If you are really in such a place, PLEASE, reach out for help professionally. I believe a lot of us have reached days when there seems to be little hope, but there is always a tomorrow and you never know how things will be tomorrow if you are not around to see it.

I know your frustrations with SS and how they can make you feel. Don't let some governmental agency get the better of you. How far did you fight them? It sounds like you filed a second claim for benefits after being denied on the first. How far did you go with the first claim?

Is it your health, SSDI, finances, or all of them getting you so down? When many things are piled upon us all at once, the despair can be overwhelming. You never know what tomorrow is going to bring so we need to be here to see and deal with each day as it presents itself. Tomorrow may be a better day but we need to wait and see it each day. If it is not, then we can always hope the next one will be the better day.

You can see from my "name" here, I have some days of depair but I am FAR from throwing in the towel. I refuse to let the government control my life. I will stick around for spite. I will show them. Of course, that is not always my attitude. Some days they get to me, too. It is a roller coaster and can make you nauseated but I am staying on for the entire ride.

Please respond. I would love to hear from you and know how you are doing. There are many forums here that you might find beneficial. Send me a PM if you wish.

Hi Chemar,

Your last line is well understood but I felt compelled to respond to post by the person in despair. I hope that was not against the rules. I agree that the suicidal forum is the proper place for discussion but I wanted to respond.

Thanks, Chemar, I hope I did not over step by responding to that post. I am still learning the ropes at Neurotalk. Your guidance is very much appreciated.

Please reach out to one of your specialists, Kitty.....and when you are ready, to a lawyer who can help you with your original SSI application.

Your denial letter would be for SSDI not SSI if it is because you were not disabled before your date last insured. If you filed an SSI claim, it may still be pending. I think you need to call the DDS analyst or the field office claims rep or even the teleservice rep to know the full answer. So as soon as you can, call SSA and call your doctor. And in the meantime, call your best friends.

So I could still have a claim? Their letter made it sound like I was completely out of options.

I feel I'm on the verge of doing something crazy because I can't stand things anymore. I talked to four friends today and there's nothing they can do. I truly don't think they realize how bad I am feeling....they say stuff like go for a walk or something....they don't realize how ridiculous that sounds *admin edit* It just makes me feel worse. I feel I can't get anyone to take me seriously except here.

The SSDI notice would only refer to Social Security benefits (Title 2) based on earnings records. There is always a separate notice for SSI Supplemental Security Income Title 16. The SSDI notice will also always include the paragraph about other benefits as well which would include retirement, spouse or survivor benefits. I am sure some lawyers decided that paragraph was necessary because of the scope of the application.

If it is not too hot where you live, going for a walk or a run may give you a temporary lift in mood.

Tomorrow you can call SSA and ask if you still have an SSI claim pending. And if not, you can file one since it doesn't require any Social Security credits to qualify.

Default There are always options

Hi,
I'm sure many of us have felt like you do now. I know for myself I've contemplated suicide but, I never acted on it.
I agree with others SSI is an option and an entirely different application.
I know it would be difficult but, if you can find a part time (or full time) job that you can manage with your disability it would give you earned credits so that you could apply again. It would change your date to qualify for benefits.
Be well.
