Default Is anyone worried about the next SS check?

I'm reading all the scary stuff on yahoo, then I went to FAQ's about SS and can the checks be delayed and then I read where they have a trillion or more surplus and Obama shouldn't even be considering delaying people's checks. I remember going through this last year and people told me 'They can't stop the checks, there would be such anarchy, well they CAN'T stop the checks"

So I gather we are all in a similar situation here.

Thoughts anyone??

Default SS Worries

I'm not worried as the Federal programs are indefinitely funded by trust account. *edit*

Hope this helps you!

I wasn't referring to the shut down. I'm referring to the stuff that happens if they don't raise the debt ceiling. They are talking about if one is expecting a check on the 4th wednesday of the month, it might be delayed for two days and if one expects it on the first, it might be delayed for two weeks. Good Grief.

I hope this does not happen. Many people depend on these checks for survival.

I am more worried about another global economic collapse, but there is some reason to be concerned:
Quote:
Meanwhile, the Social Security Administration confirmed to CBS News that it's received calls from citizens concerned about the impact the current budget stalemate will have on their Social Security checks. While the shutdown shouldn't impact Social Security checks, benefits could be at risk if Congress fails to raise the debt limit by Oct. 17.

The Social Security Administration crafted a response with the Treasury Department, and field offices are now advising the public that they cannot guarantee full benefit payments if the debt ceiling isn't increased.

NOPE! I have direct deposit.

I didn't know folks are still receiving "checks." I thought SS stopped doling out checks last year or earlier this year.

If there was going to be any delays or stop payments, SS will inform you by letter.

You mentioned something about the Daily News. Please provide a link to these articles you are referring too and/or which Daily News you are getting your info from.

Hi. It was the front page of the NYC Daily News. All about soldiers' families not being given death benefits. I tried to find that on the internet but all I get is the website for the NYC Daily News. Can't find that particular photo. Maybe one of you will have better luck? And on the radio just now some reporter said that Obama has ordered that these families get the benefits. So SOMEONE is doing SOMETHING!!!!

Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel says the Fisher House Foundation has agreed to make the payments from its own funds. At the end of the shutdown, the Defense Department will reimburse the foundation for the costs it has incurred.
Families of fallen soldiers will get death benefits

What a sad state of affairs we currently live in.
