Default Insights on inability to treat for disability due to poverty!

I am seeking after experienced insights regarding inability to continue treatment due to loss of insurance, and all income.

Until recently, I had no ability to treat for my SSDI listings, I had no money, no insurance, and no doctors! My understanding is that this is extremely common, and despite the SSA demand that you be current, for many of us that was simply impossible due to finances.

How will this be treated in my new hearing? I have only just recently been placed on medical assistance for treatment of advanced, complex cancer, which was also a listed condition at my last hearing(2010). How will the ALJ likely respond to a fully supportive RFC from a doctor that has only just recently begun to treat you?

Hi Direwolf,

I just wrote you a very long response and then I went back and reviewed one of your posts from September. Jogging my mind made my response totally irrelevent so I just deleted it and here is my revision.

Your NEW supporting information from your new doc along with your LONG and well documented prior information should suffice even with a lapse of medical care due to financial hardship.

I know you are looking for someone with a similar experience as yours to respond but I wanted to put in my 2 cents.

Wishing you a speedy and favorable resolution to your long battle. Let us know how your surgery goes when you are up to it after you begin to recover.

Dear Direwolf,

Yes, the SSA rules are a bunch of ** like expecting you to get medical treatment with no money or insurance...because isn't that the most ILLogical approach they could take?

My case took seven hellacious years to be approved. At the time of my approval I didn't even have a current physician to fill out the RFC. However, I did have TEN PLUS years of medical documentation from a time when I had some insurance....documents that were COMPLETELY ignored by my **of an ALJ.

All to say, the current RFC was unnecessary in my (remanded) case. In the meantime, you might also want to check with the health department for discounted care. Although they usually don't employ specialists, they can refer you to one. State grants might allow your services with the specialist to be highly discounted.

I utilized my health department while I was waiting for my second hearing. It was such an anxiety-ridden time, and I personally just felt better DOING something.

Good luck to you!

Call your local Social Service department. They should be able to recommend free medical services through the local clinics. All hospitals have a "charity" department. Many do not advertise this but they do.

And then there is ObamaCare.

GOOD LUCK & hang in there!
