They do that here where I live as well and only when there is a public holiday (banks shut) on the actual pay day. That way it makes sure that any bills can be paid without going overdue. A lot of people have certain bills set up to be paid automatically on a specific day, and these days so many people live week to week or month to month and don't have too much spare to cover those sorts of bills otherwise. Even going one day overdue can be an expensive outlay these days.
