Is it correct that my fully favorable decision on SSDI and SSi by an ALJ that states "Based on the application for a period of disability and disability insurance benefits protectively filed on july 29 ,2014, the claimant has been disabled under sections 216(i) and 223(d) of the SSA since july 15,2012" and my benefit amount of $1705 and my beneficiaries (2kids 1500K$) family max month of $3205 that my SSDI backpay will be 55 months at $3205 totaling $176,275.00???

As for your numbers no one here has an idea....I wont question that.
But yes the date of disability, and the date of being accepted you do get a check covering from day one of your disability.... If I remember I got a check for almost 2 years back pay.. |

Your children's backpay should be put into accounts in their names. When they turn 18, SS will require the balance be returned to them and reissued to the children directly. You are essentially acting as a Representative Payee on their behalf, so don't think of the full $176k as yours.

Wouldn't the kids potion be for their ongoing care now going up, with hopefully some saved for college?
Just curious.. Seems odd they pay it out but would require a reissue at age 18.. I would suggest investing or dividing the lump sum, have a plan for the future..

A financial advisor is a good idea. You'll need a non-biased neutral third party to explain the pros and cons of different scenarios especially if there are children involved. That's a lot of money for anyone to try and manage alone. Good luck!

I thought the family maximum for SSDI is between 150% and 180% (usually 150% I believe). If so, then the 2 kids would get half of the $1,705 every month - $850 a month split between the 2 of them ($425 a month each).
