Hi
If you have an account on ssa.gov you can log in and see if there are perhaps any notifications there for you? You can also use the chatbot there to request a call back or call the main LOCAL number and then say "Help Desk" when prompted for an extension. That should get you through faster, and requesting a callback that way avoids the hours long wait times that can often occur on their phone system SSI payments are lower than SSDI and so that may be the reduction reason? It all depends on your situation, and they are the only ones who can provide the details Last edited by Chemar; 03-08-2024 at 12:38 PM. Reason: clarifying local number |

Yes, I was referring to the local number help center desk, not national - One can get that when one logs in. Even local lines can have long wait times, but just saying "help desk" instead of going on hold, can sometimes result in a "live" person who can then direct one, or arrange a call back.

when i call the local social security office i do not get a prompt for a choice to talk to a help desk. so it may depend upon the particular local office. They ask me why i am calling then switch me into the person who is taking calls that day. i never had to wait long.

no i never did. i don't need to with local office. the wait has never been long. never more than a couple of minutes. The 800 number quite the opposite
That being said i wouldnt bother the local office with something minor, they have their own important work to do, but for a significant reduction in benefits i would. |
