I had a stroke almost three years ago and I filed for Social Security not long after. THey originally denied my claim and now I'm waiting for a court date. My hugest problem is that I use to have one doctor for 30 years and when he left (right before I had a stroke due to no one willing to treat me) and the doctors have either dismissed me from their office because they 'couldn't prescribe such meds or they wouldn't except me due to being a liability.
And to throw a little salt into the wound, I worked at a large doctors office and we had 5 providers that day and not one thought my strange behavior or looks were of any concern ( i was a sky walk away from the ER). I had altered at this time and had no idea who I was or where I was. When I tried to go back to the office, I basically got fired - stating I had to have been on drugs... ( that law suit is pending ), but because of all of this and my long history, I don't know how to proceed with getting the disability....
Any ideas would be great!
(P.S. when I stroked out, I walked four 4hrs before I eventually got treated and that was only because I somehow found my car and went to a hospital 7 miles away - no memory of ever doing it )

My mom had the exact same symptoms last December. She ended up in my sisters driveway asleep at the wheel. She remembers nothing. The ER said she didn't have a stroke either. We still don't know what caused this but they did find a calcium brain tumor during her ct scan. She had that removed in February. She had one more episode after surgery and now is disabled and also applying for social security. The neuro thinks her latest episode is related to the surgery and has also tested her for Myasthenia Gravis.

Your not alone and not the only one. My mom is applying for disability as we speak and has her interview in June. I pray they approve her. She's also losing her health insurance.

Hello I finally got onit. It took years for me. I had to keep record of medical anything. Any time they said no to me getting on ssi i just refilled out papers that day again. Just keep filling them out that day they denia you. I ended up going to a lawyer who works with people who triong to get on ssi> she helped me alot and i did get on it. She only gets so much money if you get on it. Like my lady only got 2 thousand, when i got it approved. It did take 5 years for me, other people not as long all depends.

Many neurological conditions are difficult to dx. I originally had stroke-like symptoms, which were dx as a probable stroke. However, my neuro was cautious, and said, "Lots of things look like a stroke."

A trip to Mayo Clinic later, many possible and probable dx later (lyme disease, encephalytis, vasculitis, CNS Lupus, etc.), many new and different and odd symptoms later, many MRI's and other tests later, and almost 2 years later, I was dx with Multiple Sclerosis.

I am grateful that my neurologist did not rush to a dx, which may have been incorrect.

Consider going to a university med center, or a place like Mayo Clinic. An ER is not qualified to give you a dx after a few hours.

I hope you have an attorney that works only with SS cases. It sounds like your case will have a few knots in it and you need help since it won't be routine.

Your situation sounds very scary and you could have been hurt very bad when all that was going on. You will need to have ongoing, regular medical care so that documentation can be made by the Dr's on you health, etc.

I certainly hope you are able to processed. Remember, it may take years. But then again, for some, it only takes a few months.
