Junie, I wrote my congressman and told them that I was in dire strates...meaning that your financial needs are a huge problem, they were able to shorten my wait by about three months...maybe more...go to your states website and find out who your congressmen is for your area...wouldn't hurt!!

Default Dire straits

There is a program specifically for those at risk. This means losing housing, medical care and other life impacting situations. If you have an attorney, he/she should be able to get this program going to quicken the process. They have phone number to get in touch with the hearing scheduling office.

Calling your Congressman can also get a bit of a push but the direct contact might be just as effective if not more effective.

Three years is the current standard wait to get to a hearing. There are some efforts being made to shorten this time by hiring more Judges and other workers but this will take some time.

My hearing was March 20, 2009. My first application was June 6, 2006.

They say 60 to 90 days to get the written approval, then 6 to 8 weeks to get the first check. Sounds like almost five months, max. So it is five months on both ends. Allsup told you right.

Now I just have to wait for the first check.
