Thumbs up Awarded, On The Bench Today!

I am so relieved and happy that after 3 years I finally won my case, but I had forgotten there is a 5 month waiting period from day of winning before you see your money! I am ok with it but it was explained to me today so those of you that has been waiting months, this could be the reason why!3 Cheers for Allsup!

Junie, I am so happy for you I have been waiting over three years for the hearing to decide my eligibility....having to accept handouts for food, getting clothes at the donation stores, it's all so difficult!

Life is a struggle, but at least you have overcome one battle...but we all know it's not the worst one.

Default Congrats!!!

Congratulations Junie on your award!! It's so nice to hear when someone does get an award as those of us waiting know how long this process can take. I am new to this website; my name is Suzy and I have been waiting for my Social Security since 2006. And tonight, I am filling out yet more forms they have requested as my file is now on the docket for a hearing (God knows how long that will take!!).....am about to cry and throw everything to the winds as they want 'caught up' from 04/30/07!!! So frustrating - tired of this ride - feel like every day I'm getting more and more broke financially.

I want to add my congrats, Junie. Mine took about 3 years to get an ALJ hearing. That was with an attorney.

Hi Junie, Im glad everything worked out well for you. The five month waiting period is from the time you are found to have been disabled and unable to work, not from the time the actual decision was made. After the decision is made it has to be written up, sent to a payment processing center and other administrative tasks. That is the reason for the delay now.

Well, if Allsup explained that the 5 month waiting period began with the day of winning, they were wrong. The 5 month waiting period begins with the first full month after the established date of onset of disability, but no earlier than 17 months before the application date. Sounds like your 5 month waiting period probably ended a few years ago.

Thumbs up congrats!

Congrats to you! What relief you must finally feel!

I am new to the site - joined to see what kind of wait my husband/our family is in for waiting on SSD; he has a brain injury from a car accident and applied for disability in July '08...his files are with the Drs. with DDS for review (in Virginia); fom everything I read, we have a long way to go, but I am trying to remain hopeful.

I am sad to see the stuggles so many truly deserving people are going thru and very happy to hear at least one have received good news today!
