Frown How do back pay checks come?

I know this is a dumb question, but I wondered how Back Pay checks come? My SSI check for this month came in a tiny blue envelope. I will not be getting any future SSI benefits, but I will get my SSDI. Since my SSDI back pay is supposively on its way (mailed out they say). I worry about it. So I wondered if it comes the same way and by USPS. Again, I know it is dumb to ask, but I am anyway. Such a large amount that I worry of its where abouts. Thanks ahead of time.

p.s. another dumb question: I cannot wait on the bank hold. I want to cash it right away (my car is getting ready to be repo'd). Is there anywhere that will cash them for a fee? If so where & how much can I expect to pay. Thanks again!

I'm not sure about the rules at the bank you use but couldn't you just deduct the amount of your car payment from the check (take it out in cash) and deposit the rest. Then you could get a bank check or money order for the amount of the car payment. I would think the bank would understand.....maybe even take them proof that the car finance company isn't willing to wait. It's worth a try. Good luck!

Hi, thanks for the replies. I talked to the bank already about that and they said absolutely not. They said the rules apply to everyone. They said there is a 9 day hold. They will not allow to get some money out or hold some for them. It sucks real bad. That is because I am starting a new account. Even if I had been with them for awhile they said it would be a 9 day hold anyway. I can't do direct deposit until I have the cash to put in there. Thanks again. I appreciate the replies. They said it is that way for all Government Checks, Social Security being the main one. ugh, saddens me even more.

Here's a link to a nationwide check cashing company. I've never used them or any check cashing service but it looks like they cash government checks. It might be worth checking out. I'm not sure where you live but you can enter your zip code and see if there is one near you. Good luck!

Contact your attorney general or your state senator for help. In this climate there is little patience with uncooperative banks, espeically those that have benefitted from TARP funds. I would even contact my local TV station, espcially if they have a consumer advocate who might be able to help. You have to be the squeaky wheel . . . not the shy mouse . . .to get things done!

If all else fails, cash it at a local check cashing place, as the cost will be less than defaulting on your car payment.

Thank You! I had thought about that but wasn't so sure. I looked up the rules on how much they can charge. Honestly, I don't care if I pay the 2.5 or 3.0%, since I need the money now it will be worth it. Thank you so much again. I am probably going to do that at least with the first check. The second I am going to put in the bank. When ever it comes....seeing as though they said it was mailed on Thursday (or it was cut or something), I think they said mailed though. I still haven't got it. I am an obsessive mail checker. The guy at SSA told me to keep checking the mail box should be here anytime, he said keep checking because of it being so big. However, I keep checking and nothing is there, get other mail but not it. Not even here today. Hope that if it did go out that it didn't get stolen or lost.

First, it is not something that should be subject to hold.
So definately contact the Attorney General. Also please next time
try letting the car payment people know what is going on. I realize
they may try saying its just a story. But if you can show them the
check you deposited. Just keep a copy of the check.
