Heart

I had my ACDF C6 and C7 surgery yesterday. So far so good. I am in a soft cervical collar, my doc wants me in it 24/7 for 4 weeks. I am very stiff and sore today. The muscles in my upper back and neck/shoulders HURT !! I also have a wicked headache. I have been speeling in my recliner, I tried the bed, but I was too uncomfortable. I have some arm pain and the 3 fingers that were very numb, are doing better too, but everything is better than before. I am on lortabs every 6 hours and clclobenzaprine 3 times daily. Thanks for all the help, Karen

Default home sweet home

Just get well now, the worst is over. Every day you will feel just a bit better than the day before. I know it hurts. Be very kind to yourself, and I hope you have someone around to pamper you a bit. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. So glad you are home now, the hospital is no place to get well in! Too much noise, too many needles to get any rest at all. ginnie

Thumbs Up

The headache is likely a hangover from the anesthetic.

Hang in there - we're all rootin' for ya.

You will need quality sleep/rest to recover. If you're not getting it, be sure to call & tell your doctor asap.

Laugh

It's been one week since my surgery. I still have pain in my neck and across my shoulders. The pain I had in my arm before the surgery is finally gone. I still have some numbness in my fingers and some weakness in my right arm as well. I keep my soft collar on and the only place I can really get comfortable is my recliner. I have been sleeping there since I came home It's so hard to follow the rules about No bending, lifting, turing or twisting. When I over do any of these...I pay the price and am hurting for quite a while !!! I have been up and about since I came home, just trying to get back into a normal routine. I have my follow up on Jan 31st. My throat is getting better, still eating soft foods. I will update soon. Thanks, Karen

Default Hi tigerbear

I am glad you are OK and doing well at home. Continue to sleep. That really helps the healing process. I understand about the pain. By the end of this coming week, you will start to notice a big difference. It should get better to where much of that neck pain will deminish. I remember how hard it was for me not to bend, twist etc,. Keep being careful and taking it easy. I hope your throat gets better soon too. I wore my collar for quite a while and also slept in a chair. Be good to yourself, and know I am thinking about you. ginnie
