Default Tapping into controversial back surgeries

This article/video includes a downloadable database (MS Excel Spreadsheet) of spine surgeons in the US with statistical information. It should be of value to anyone contemplating surgery and looking for information about their prospective surgeon(s).

Quote:
For this six month investigation, CBS News exclusively obtained part of a government database. We asked for, among other things, the number of spinal fusions each doctor in the country billed to Medicare from 2011-2012, under codes most commonly used for "degenerative" conditions that cause lower back pain. We put the entire database online and made it easily searchable by the public. We also provided guidance on how to interpret it and details about how it was compiled.

Tapping into controversial back surgeries

Doc

Along with surgeons in US info; another post I found really informative was a post by GJZH on 10/01/06 with definitions for new people: PLIF, ALIF & TLIF. I already had L4-5 laminectomy fusion with instrumentation in 2006. I was amazed seeing the x-ray of the 58 year old woman that showed the instrumentation, etc. at the L4-5 level. That x-ray looked almost identical to the one I had post fusion.

Also found quite interesting and informative was a post by Jo*mar of 12/2/2010 showing spine from C1 thru L5, including sacrum & coccyx. I myself, learned for the first time the definition of L4 and L5. Again, this would be especially good info for all those contemplating fusion surgery.
